Polk Buckle- an overlooked headphone that deserves a thread

These headphones are a great buy! I have been enjoying them all morning out of my iPhone 6. I imported them to the UK via Amazon.com after reading several favorable reviews. The looks are distinctive or cheesy depending on taste and the packaging eccentric (the heart theme appears in each ear...

Westone W40 vs Shure se846 or Sennheiser IE800?

I have three phones, IE800; SE846; and W40. I usually use them straight out for mi iPhone 4S.   The W40 is the easiest to fit. I prefer them, as I usually do, with triple flange tips. They are light, nicely shaped to the ear, and well made and good looking in a sober sort of way.    The SE...

Sennheiser IE800 vs. Shure SE846: Which one is superior in terms of price?

I have both IEMs and have been listening for more than three months. First I will make some comments on convenience.    The SE 846 are quite awkward to fit and stick out from the ear. Their cable is stiff and the even stiffer bit for the over ear part is an irritant for me. There is a good...

    B&W P7 vs NAD VISO HP50

The P7s are not particularly comfortable , partly because the padding the ear pieces is rather unyielding. The NAD Visos are definitely more comfortable; indeed they can easily be forgotten whereas the P7s are much more intrusive : you always know you have them on.I have tried over a period to...

PSB M4U1 vs. NAD VISO HP50

The PSB and the NAD are, as others have said, comparable in sound and both have a realism that makes them superior to others at the price point including Momentum and, at a higher point, P7. It is difficult to pin down why this should be but the loudspeaker reference that Barton uses has...

Sennheiser Momentum vs Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) P7

I agree with the recent correspondent who preferred Momentums to P7. He also rated BandO which I haven't heard yet. The sound of the Momentums and their comfort mean they can be worn and enjoyed for long periods. The P7s, whilst looking impressive in their way, are not as comfortable and, for...

Sennheiser Momentum vs Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) P7

I shall try adjusting the headband although I suspect they intend the cups to press tightly to give their idea of the correct bass. These phones are an enigma to me and I feel I should enjoy them more than I do.

Sennheiser Momentum vs Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) P7

I agree that the P7s look very expensive. Unfortunately they are. They are not particularly comfortable but uncomfortable would be overstating it. I cannot enjoy the sound which, while it has changed with use, does not, in my view, compare with Momentums; Focal Spirit Pro or Thinksound ON1  all...

Beyerdynamic T1 vs. Ultrasone Edition 8?

Showing how fragile my judgements can be I have now reevaluated the Edition 8s and find their treble edgy and unrealistic compared with some much cheaper favourites including Focal Spirit Pros; PSB MRU2; Thinksound PO and even Sennheiser Momentum. Go figure!

    New! Focal Spirit Pro?

The only con given by some is that they might get 'tiring'. I can't think why unless the source material is tiring! I have scrutinised the headband and can't see any sign of cracks but maybe you wouldn't until it happened. They don't look as strong as PSB that look like a bit of Robo Cop. I...

    New! Focal Spirit Pro?

There's definitely a consensus that they sound great! Well done Focal!!

    New! Focal Spirit Pro?

I didn't say it was uncomfortable but that it wasn't particularly comfortable (compared with a number of other phones ).   My judgement on durability was superficial and based on little experience. Maybe I was taken in by the crackle finish which must be durable because it has no aesthetic...

Comparisons: 36 of the Top Closed/Portable Headphones Around

I must explore the Thinksound . I had never heard of it but that's probably me ! I have looked at their website and they seem a good deal at $249. Wish you had heard the Focals !

Comparisons: 36 of the Top Closed/Portable Headphones Around

In my opinion the Focal Pro is better than the Classic (see Tyll Hertsen for a good comparison of the Classic and Pro).I would prefer it to all in your list but haven't heard Thinksound. It's the organic 'analogue' sound I love.

Comparisons: 36 of the Top Closed/Portable Headphones Around

Please do not neglect the Focal Spirit Professional. In my view this is the best in its price range and competes well with phones at three times the price.  It has an unusual organic realism based on its even frequency range and exceptional transients.  Roger

    New! Focal Spirit Pro?

These are to my ears exceptional headphones. They have that elusive sense of realism which may be related to two attributes: even frequency response and exceptionally fast transients. I have compared them with a number of phones both in their price range and more and far more expensive and their...

Comparisons: 36 of the Top Closed/Portable Headphones Around

I too have Momentums, P500s and P7s. Frankly they can all sound reasonably good out of an iPhone 5S but significantly better out of a boosting amp. The comparison with the the PSB M4U2 is instructive here with its built in amp providing more realistic depth and scale straight from the iPhone...

Sennheiser Momentum vs Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) P7

I too have all three headphones. In isolation you could probably be happy with each. I have not listened extensively to the VModa but found it to have an emphasis towards the bass and a rather softened presence. After quite a lengthy break in I think the P7 has the best range and dynamics. At...

    Senn HD650 or HD600?

I have rediscovered the HD650 which I had set aside for some years whilst I played with HD800; Beyerdynamic T1; Denon 7000 , Ultrasone Edition 8 and a number of cheaper phones which I could use direct from my iPhone including Sennheiser Momentum; Beyer T50P; V Moda 100; and various IEMs. At the...

Beyerdynamic T1 vs. Ultrasone Edition 8?

Ultrasone Edition 8 vs Beyerdynamic T1s   I have now had the Edition 8 for nine months and have grown to love them. At first I thought they were too brightly lit and piercing but over a long period the treble has settled down to give a level of detail that I find it difficult to do without...

    [New] Philips Fidelio X1

I completely agree that these headphones are outstanding  not just at their price point  but compared with far more expensive models.  They are certainly a step forward from the L1 which I found OK but bland.  The X1s have the balance of frequencies  just right with realistic  detail without...

    AKG K550 - NEW!!

As the burn in hours go by , there may be some improvement in that the treble, whilst still brightly lit, is marginally sweeter. The bass sounds OK in its self but on donning anything else from my collection the bass is immediately stronger and the 550s sound relatively anaemic. My impressions...

    AKG K550 - NEW!!

I have just got a pair of K550s after a rave review in What Hi Fi  magazine.   First impressions are very disappointing with an over bright and edgy treble and reduced bass. The treble is the most aggressive I have heard since some un-burnt in Grado 325s.  I am at a loss to understand the...
