Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
You know if it's really important to you there's 3rd party people that paint professionally. You could send it in and have them do whatever you want to it, including designs. It's not cheap though. I was thinking about having my HD800 professionally done at one point. Pretty sure he...- Kost

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
To be fair, you didn't have to design your products to take USB power from the computer. That's really not what I was talking about though. You don't have to do wifi or ethernet or any of that other stuff. I was talking about more expanding what the Multibit DAC is capable of decoding like dolby...- Kost

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Jason, I agree in principle. The more complex something is, the more things that can go wrong with it. However, the Samsung galaxy exploding thing was a bad example. For one thing the fault was in the batteries, not the devices, secondly the failure rate was massively over inflated by the media...- Kost

Sennheiser HD650 "surround"?
I've been wanting one of these but at $230 it's way too pricey for a filthy casual such as myself. Is the AD900x better than the AD700x for gaming? The 700 can be driven from anything so I haven't bothered to hook it up to my amp. Only reason to get the GSX1000 to me is for the 7.1 surround.- Kost

Sennheiser HD650 "surround"?
I own the hd650 and they aren't gaming headphones. They sort of project the sound inside your head without giving good positional accuracy. My advice is to get headphones that fulfill different purposes rather than trying to get a one size fits all. I personally use the ATH-AD700x for gaming...- Kost

Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (8/18/2022: iFi GO Blu Review Added)
I looked it up on youtube and I think I found the same video, you're absolutely right. The TAC was lacking in bass which is good for competitive gaming but I noticed it didn't increase the sound of footsteps and instead they were harder to hear. Oh well, thanks for the response.- Kost

Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (8/18/2022: iFi GO Blu Review Added)
Did anyone ever end up trying the Turtle Beach - Elite Pro Tactical Audio Controller? It supposedly supports 7.1 with DTS headphone x which is different than dolby digital surround and is supposed to be better. I was looking around for something different yesterday and found it on amazon for...- Kost

Upgrade with DAP or Amp?
I was doing some looking around after I posted and found this http://www.centrance.com/products/hifi-skyn I had no idea they came out with this, but it might be what you're looking for. I've only tried the hifi m8 myself but its probably pretty good, its a dac/amp combo, 400 dollars and it...- Kost

Upgrade with DAP or Amp?
Actually I changed my post as you were reading it, sorry. I was thinking id just delete it all and tell you about the centrance hifi m8 since that would seem to be your best solution. As an aside though ALAC works on all modern cowon players, and the fiio x1 isn't representative of all daps. For...- Kost

Upgrade with DAP or Amp?
You could get the centrance hifi m8, one of them is a portable amp/dac combo that works with the iphone 6, and it's probably in your price range if you buy used. (around 400). I think I've even seen a few of these used for around 350 if your patient. The reason you should want a dac/amp...- Kost

Christmas IEM gift help
Thanks Beyakusen, I checked out the list but I found most of the IEMs in the price range I'm looking at are discontinued or they're old models in terms of product lineup. I was thinking about going with hifiman re-600 since they're on sale for black friday for $150. I'll keep looking at the...- Kost

Xbox One - Gaming Headset
A) You only need one if your controller doesn't have 3.5mm female jack on it. All the new xbox one controllers have them but the older ones don't. Personally, I like the headset adapter because it has a mute button and chat mixer on it that can let me mess with the volumes. It does add extra...- Kost

Christmas IEM gift help
Hello all, I'm looking to buy an IEM for my father for Christmas. My price range is $100-200 USD. He mostly listens to rock, everything from 80's hair metal bands to pink floyd and 90's alternative rock. His needs are: 1) Good isolation- (My dad commutes 2 hours a day via bus for work)...- Kost

Amp/DAC for Xbox One
Actually you don't need a DAC since your DSP device is handling that stage. In a different thread you said you were using the 598's which probably don't need an amp either. If I were you I would get a mixamp since it's pretty much your best option. If your going to get an amp you will need...- Kost

Did Sennheiser just reveal the Orpheus successor?
I'd consider buying just the headphones if they didn't have the platinum vapor or italian marble in them. Really this seems kind of opulent for a market that's usually more interested in getting the best bang for your buck in terms of audio quality.- Kost

Who thinks Dr. Dre doesn't actually listen to Beats?
I previously owned the M50's and there's no way that can be those. The cup size for the M50 is around 20% smaller than what appears in the picture, plus the headband looks different. Don't know what he's actually using though.- Kost

What Happened to Head-Fi? (Rant)
This is why I never post my opinion much, my knowledge is pretty limited. Well except that one time I posted about how hi-midfi is wasted on synth music.. which met unanimous disagreement. Ended up wishing I had just kept my trap shut and wondering how other people weren't as disappointed as I...- Kost

Selling to members with zero feedback and posts?
There shouldn't be any danger assuming the payment is received and you actually have the money. When I first joined the forum I was that way, with like 3 posts and no feedback buying stuff. Everybody has to start somewhere.- Kost

For those of you who listen to music in bed, do you have a dedicated bedroom set-up?
I actually have my setup close enough to my bed that I can listen while laying down with my HD800's. It's quite nice. Only downside is I have to get up in order to change the album/song unless I'm listening to internet radio.- Kost
