To twist or not to twist....?
I'm one of the multiple buyers of the Outlaw cables that Macdeff so generously volunteered his time and effort for. Now that I've received them and plugged them in (and am loving them), I suddenly had a question on an issue I never considered before. If there's already a thread on this...- davo

Help: Jazz recommendations for my wedding
Jeff, Congratulations! You mentioned vocals a couple of times and most of the recommendations coming back at you are traditional small group jazz with the exception of Michael Franks. For this special occasion, especially for background, mood setting, since you mentioned slow ballads... -
Would a toque cover Etys?
In the US, generally they're called Watch Caps, a carry-over from the Navy (although I'm an Army guy). They have also generically been called Ski Caps. And to stay on-topic, yes, the Etys will fit beneath a toque. I lived in the Frozen North for two years and became quite familiar with...- davo

Preview of a new headphone for 2002
You foks must be aware that Headroom has had these for about a month now. I just bought one and have had it for about a week I wrote a first impressions review on it a week or so ago. It's great for TV. For most forms of music, it's a bit too boomy. Sound quality in general is quite good...- davo

ER6 vs. ER4P for Commuting Use
Whle the ER6 captures the essence of the Etymotic sound, the 4P/S is a significantly better set of cans, in all respects of the quality of reproduced sound. That said, given your stated requirements, the ER6 may be better for you in that the much greater microphonics of the 4P may be excessive...- davo

Amphony H1000 Wireless HP - First Impressions
Just a quick note to share my first hour with these puppies. Just received them from the good people at Headroom. Packaged nicely in carton with headphones (AA batteries included and installed...a nice touch), transmitter, wallwart and interconnects as well as a brief instruction booklet...- davo

why if the er4p then add adapter makes it like a er4ps
AtEase - That's a great question. I'm flogging myself for not having thought of it before I returned my ER6's. Granted, the design methodologies between the ER6 and the 4P/4S are different, but the added resistance might have improved the quality of the sound somewhat. This is not to say...- davo

why if the er4p then add adapter makes it like a er4ps
My take is that the 4S is the "reference" version and that the 4P was inrroduced later for portable applications because they could be driven without amplifiers, for use with PCDPs and MP3 players primarily, both of which have lower power outputs to either the line out (if it exists for that...- davo

Ripping Cds...
jlo mein, I've tried a couple of times and have had trouble understanding the process. I gave up and went back to my default WMP, although I must admit I hate going back to Bill with tail between my legs. I've read enought praise about EAC/Lame that I've got to get there. There must be...- davo

ETY ER6 vs. ER4's?
What Zend said....exactly. I also use the Koss KSC-35 for the gym as a alternate to the Senn MX500. I keep both in my gym bag. The 4P/S stays at home.- davo

ETY ER6 vs. ER4's?
Wacomme, If you buy the 4P and then get a 4S adaptor, you will have both versions. The 4P can be used without an amp for portable purposes, although it does sound better with an amp. The 4S requires an amp due to its higher impedance, but the trade-off is much better sound, especially the...- davo

ETY ER6 vs. ER4's?
1. I'm a big fan of the Ety concept and I have the 4P with 4S adaptor. I just returned the ER6 to Headroom last week. As good as the ER6 is, it just doesn't compare with the 4P/S. I was going to keep the Er6 for gym use, but for the money, in that noisy environment, the Senn MX500 works better...- davo

MX-500 trebbles
Nulheim, Let me add my welcome also. Don't worry about your English. It's probably a lot better that my attempt at your native language (whatever it is). I agree that the Senn MX500 treble is rather smooth and laid back. It might be your source, or just your hearing sensitivities to that...- davo

Meier Analoger
Hi Lextek, I was interested in this too and ran a search and came up with two threads. Seems there are mixed reactions and also that it may also be dependent on the source material. I asked Jan about it and he pretty much said the same thing, that some people couldn't really tell a major... -
Hiss elimination
Stravers, Another way to achieve this is to get yourself over to the local Rat Shack and get their in-line volume control for headphones. This is actually a small in-line potentiometer (variable resistor). I haven't measured on (don't have one), but it should range from almost zero ohms to...- davo

Marantz PSD 230?
Marantz PSD 230 Folks, just wondering if any of you have any experience with this portable CD Player? Check the link above to the Marantz PSD 230. I'm a musician and this looks ideal for learning tunes and riffs with its tempo and key controls, and A-B looping, as well as all the its...- davo

mp3 player on par with CD player?

Etymotic Dilemma
Just as Aristillus discovered, the Er6 and the Er 4P both have their place. My 4P has amazing detail, especially amped and with the $S adaptor. However, with the stiffer cord and greater microphonics (which btw, aren't really that bad), I choose to use the 6's on the go, as for walks, jogging...- davo

Replacement DVD resource???
Hi folks, I broke a DVD from the Ken Burns "Jazz" set while removing it from its case (Why do they make that so difficult?). I'm an amateur jazz musician and the set was a gift from my wife so it has more than just a financial value to me. This is a set of 10 DVD's and everywhere I've... -
Portable amp battery drain -- dependencies?
James, You're getting good inputs on the subject. It actually gets somewhat complicated as dB is based on logarithmic scale and as a result is not linear. As was said, twice the sound dB is 4x the power required to generate it. My recollection on this is a little hazy. Someone can jump...- davo
