A headphone tribute goodbye to Tyll from Innerfidelity

I haven't been here in a while, but I saw Tyl's video on YT and saw a thread on OCN about a tribute thread and I wanted to send my best wishes to him! I wanted to thank him for starting me on the audiophile journey and for helping me understand many things about audio. After going to many...

    = Hifiman Regrilling Mod =

Anyone with an HE-400i know what size acrylic fan grill to get (Inspired Laser Design)? Is it 80 mm or 92 mm?

Ipod classic - rockbox - its happening.

Yes, use either a L1 or L3 LOD Cable sold by Fiio (if your ipod is of the 30 pin sort - which 'm assuming it is).

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

Long time since I've posted and I've been lurking for a few months now... but...   It's funny how each person's tastes differ so much. I listened to the HD-650 and HD-600 versus the X2 using a Cypher Labs Algorhythm Solo -dB and Solo -R with a DAP (the place where I buy my headphones has this...

    Audio Technica Pro500 MK2

One of our members,i-me, mentioned that the HPAEC940 velour pads for the SRH940 headphones can be used for the ATH-M50 you scored. The link you gave has the 840 highlighted, choose the 940 and you get the velour pads which are more comfortable specially if you use glasses with them.   Here's...

Aune T1 USB Tube DAC+ SS Amp Discussion Thread ***See first post for FAQ--Updated on 02/14/15***

I wanted to ask people in this forum about this:   "If you change the cord or adapter then don`t forget to change it to one that has a FUSE in it! IMPORTANT! - UK plug fuse should be changed to something between 0,5A - 3A fuse because in stock it comes with 13A fuse which is way too much!"  ...

    Audio Technica Pro500 MK2

If you put them on one after the other the m50 will definitely sound darker versus the pro550mk2. I personally like the sound signature of the pro over the m50 since it's able to present mids better. Add the fact that you can swap out cables from coiled to straight as part of the package and...

    Audio Technica Pro500 MK2

I know I'm reviving an old (relatively) thread but I did want to give some feedback on these headphones as i was lucky enough to compare them to (at the same place):   1. ATH-M50 2. ATH-M50 S/LE   I would rank the three headphones in this order:   1. ATH-PRO500 MK2 2. ATH-M50...

    HD 439 or HD 518?

If your really looking for bass have you tried checking out the ATH-M50 or the ATH-Pro500 Mk2 from Audio Technica? They are right around the same price as the HD-518. I own the HD-518 and it really gives a very balanced sound with the Senn sound signature of being a little veiled and laid back...

@reticon - Digital_Pride is correct in saying that this won't offer the sound isolation you're looking for considering it's an open back type head phone. They still offer decent isolation since I also use an AC and once listening to music (setting volume 3 with my fiio e11 - which is pretty low)...

    Sennhesier hd 518

The old 515/555/595 had an issue with their headbands cracking at the ends. Sennheiser replaced the type of material they used (different plastic composition) and solved the issue. For the record, I've had my headphones for almost six months and still no crack whatsoever.

It would go very well with the type of music you listen to. As for HD movies, with it's very good sound stage, it definitely kicks butt in that area so you can't lose on this one!

The E11 comes with a black (rubber) band that looks and feels like the "livestrong" bracelets and it would definitely look good together with your sanza fuse (if your unit is black). Their size roughly seems to be the same and the fuse has a roughly flat back so it should look good if that's...

You shouldn't be too worried about it since it has been reported in some cases but with no ill effects to their in ear buds or headphones. Mine does not have this hiss but when I try to increase volume I hear a distortion or slight crinkling sound which developed over time from using the...

Sennheiser HD 518 vs HD 558

@purpleangel,     I've opened my 518 to see if the black tape /foam mod can be done and it doesn't have it (the tape / foam that is). In any case, it doesn't need the mod because the 518 actually has more bass presence than the 558.   As for increasing the bass, pairing it with an AMP...

Sennheiser HD 518 vs HD 558

Hey guys! I have the 518 and the sound it produces is almost basically the same as the 558 and 598. Refer to the link below showing their frequency and wave responses.   http://www.head-fi.org/t/575369/sennheiser-hd-598-558-518-which-one-do-you-recommend-me   Listening to all 3 though...

    Sennhesier hd 518

In terms of comfort I've been able to wear the 518 for 8+ hours and I never even had any urge to re-seat or fiddle with it the whole time. Mind you this is with an ambient of about 26-27*C in my room, that's pretty good if you ask me.

The amp would definitely add more sound stage to your current set-up as well as make the mids more clear. The bass (EQ) I would suggest you set tot a 1 instead of a 2 since the monster series of IEM's do have a tendency to have more pronounced bass. Again, the best advice is to bring your set-up...

@Destroyall In terms of comfort I would rate these headphones almost at par with any of the new 5xx series. The only difference would be the pads are not made of velour like the 558 / 598. They are still very comfortable but the velour is just a bit better. Comparing the material of the ear-cups...

    Sennhesier hd 518

@Destroysall,   The HD 518 ear-cup size is about the same as the HD 280 pro, though the external ear-cup design of the HD 5xx series is a little bit bigger because of its shape / design. The clamp on the HD 518 is pretty good (as in comfortable and pressure is barely noticable but it fits...

@lithium1085, I really think the fiio E11 would make your 598 sound better if you plan on using it when your in the office or feel like lugging it around when out and about (which I do). Overall I believe it would add more bass / deep end to your headphones which I feel is somewhat lacking the...

A Few Questions About Sennheiser HD518

@Lemix,   Yes the pads and cables are interchangeable for the 518/558/598, that was the first thing I checked when I bought them at a friends store who is an authorized re-seller for Senns.   I also would have to agree with Marximus that using an amp doesn't hurt, I actually also got to...
