King Crimson and/or Robert Fripp -- where to start?
It's a Ligeti thing. -
Most Overrated Drummers?
Apologies to those who responded to my post (144) I was away (hospital not jail). Sorry guys but in general polls are a crock, don't forget 'The Edge' has been voted the worlds best guitarist in a number of polls on a number of occasions, I rest my case. The Edge is Irish also Irish are Rory... -
Most Overrated Drummers?
Anyone who considers Mr Starkey to be a drummer, never mind an underrated obviously knows nothing about drumming. He could possibly be described as a barely adequate timekeeper. I agree, John Densmore was a fine drummer but the bass lines in the Doors were provided, chiefly, by Ray Manzarek who... -
King Crimson and/or Robert Fripp -- where to start?
Best intro to Fripp and KC would have to be in my humble opinion 'On The Court Of The Crimson King', perhaps it's because it's where the rest of us started. Surprising how many met later at Ligeti. -
Your #1 Favorite Album
As I am only allowed to list one album and it seems to be a rock selection that's required then the best ever album in that genre was 'Love - Forever Changes'. Certainly not the biggest selling but the best by far. -
Greatest Guitarist: Virtuosity & Creativity
I did not go through the previous contributions but my offerings are. Mike Bloomfield Peter Green Rory Gallagher I have heard some of the alleged modern crop of axemen but they don't do it for me. (It's probably an age thing.) -
Favorite Jazz album (50's/60's) and why?
Dave Brubeck Quartet Live At Carnegie Hall 1963. Brubeck and Co swing like no one else on this superb album. -
Rate The Last Movie You Watched
Sorry to see the negative comments about 'Get The Gringo' and 'Lockout. Both are from actors who have nothing to prove talent wise. True neither movie will rate among their best work but both were fun. Pearce in particular hamming it up shamelessly to great effect. and Gibson, well, just being...- One Eye

How do your feelings regarding music differ from that of your spouse/friend/sibling/etc. etc.?
I have a certain empathy with Merck, my better half cannot understand how I can become absorbed in a Symphony, Mass, or Concerto and be oblivious to all around me while it's playing. We were in Amsterdam in 99 and the Concertgebouw under Chailly were playing Bruckner 9 and Mahler Totenfeier... -
Bob Dylan or Neil Young (Cast Your Vote)
Qualified Answer:- Bob Dylan up to Nashville Skyline with Highway 61 & Blonde on Blonde classics. After that it became monotonous Neil Young I never did anything for me. -
The Beatles or Pink Floyd.....Cast your vote
Both bands feature highly in my "Most Over Rated Band Ever List". Without George Martin, The Beatles would have been Herman's Hermits Mk 1. The Velvets said a lot more on one album than Floyd did in their whole career. Music for mental masturbation. -
Most over rated genre (major boring) Your experience.
Have to say Minimalism, Just don't get the point of it. No offence to fans of same. -

Is Led Zeppelin a Heavy Metal band?
I was always under the impression that Vanilla Fudge were the first true Heavy Metal band despite their pretentiousness. In respect of Led Zeppelin overall I have to say no. Certainly there are elements of Metal within their work but overall they were more eclectic than metal. All in all I think... -
Greatest Symphony ever!!
I just reacquainted myself with Sir Charles Mackerras recording of the William Walton Symphony No 1 with the London Philharmonic. Wow what a recording. I have the original version on EMI Eminence but I believe it's now available on Classics For Pleasure. It's the only version I have heard... -
Greatest Symphony ever!!
For me my favourite Beethoven Symphony is the Seventh. A fine disc is the Vienna / Abbado one on DG coupled with another fine recording of the Eight. There seems to be a huge group of composers between the years 1830 - 1900 who produced a huge amount of fantastic music. These seem to be... -
What is the Saddest song ever written?
Mr Zero by Keith Relf (Written by Bob Lind) Not sure how to upload video but it's available on youTube -
Greatest Symphony ever!!
May I also propose Robert Simpson's 9th, for me one of the great creations of the 20th century. -
Greatest Symphony ever!!
Agree but there was nothing like Saturday Morning browsing through racks of LP's (later CD's) having studied Gramophone, Penguin Guide etc, and contemplating the purchases over a pint. Happy days. -
