Class D amps - power consumption with no input?

No offense was taken - I wouldn't have asked the question if I hadn't been thinking about options so all perspectives are good!     The initial testing of the amp (arrived yesterday) confirmed I'm probably going to need 2-3 amps so I'll need to sort a power solution...   For the interim...

Class D amps - power consumption with no input?

I wouldn't say poor planning - more cost/benefit.   If it's milliamps in standby and runs 16 hours a day, then the power consumption over a year at 8 hrs standby a day is going to be suitably low enough to make automating a power routine not worth it (at that low usage level I'll just use a...

Class D amps - power consumption with no input?

Hi everyone. Can anyone help me understand what the power usage of a class D amp would be when there is no input signal? I know it's not directly a headphone question, but I'm hoping some smart DIYers here may happen to know this stuff :-) Background: * I'm running a squeezebox system and...

    Kids headphones

The Jlabs set arrived last week and I'm really impressed. I know that the headphones I had growing up sounded more like a bag of gravel than anything else... whereas these are great! He absolutely loves them.   Booked out flights tonight, 30hours travel so they'll get a good workout and will...

    Kids headphones

Thanks Bikerboy! We went for the Jlabs ones as while the kidzjams looked better they are designed for 4+ and our little guy is 2 1/2 and tiny!   Really appreciate the advice (and the offer to help ship the other ones). Never too young to start them on the right path of appreciating good music...

    Kids headphones

Those look great, but US only for shipping (I'm in the UK) and wireless/charging will be a problem as we are on a flight from UK to New Zealand (30-35 hours flying) so probaby best with something wired.   But I will add those the the future gift idea list for him!

    Kids headphones

Hi all,   Time for a question at the other end of the spectrum.   I have a boy whos almost 3 who I want to get some headphones for for an upcoming plane trip.   Obviously my main concern is that most phones will go far too loud for his little ears, but I'm nervous the volume limited ones...

Minerva MI-3 Custom IEM, Review and thoughts.

McColl, just wanted to say thanks for the review! I bit the bullet on Friday with an order for the Mi-3. I actually went out to visit their plant and they gave me a tour around. What an extremely impressive operation. Very very slick and most importantly very passionate about their products...

Quality cables with in-line microphone? Any ideas?

Thanks guys! I've contacted Minerva to see if they can source a cable (as suggested) otherwise I'll have a close look at the TF10vi option. Cheers!

Quality cables with in-line microphone? Any ideas?

I’m on the hunt for some new headphones. Except – I’m looking for a product which doesn’t exist… so it’s time to get creative.   To cut a long story short I’m looking for some high quality, robust, headphone cables which have a built in microphone.   I travel a lot, so I’m leaning...

Need IEMs to act as ear plugs

+1 for the ER20's. I use a pair driving our soft top with the roof down on the motorway. They very efficiently cut the road/wind noise by lowering the overall volume. The sound comes though at a lower volume meaning it's safe for the ears and safe for you in a busy city!

    [Review] Minerva Mi-1 Custom IEM

If I had any doubts before, this has just made up my mind. Thanks Elcom I've had some dealings with Lee while making some inquiries pre-purchase and can also vouch for their outstanding customer service.

    Anyone heard of Minerva customs?

Hi guys, One of the resident IEM reviewers on another site I frequent has also posted a review of the Mi-3's. Given the sheer number of reviews I've seen him post up I was very surprised at how positive he was! Head and shoulders above all the non-custom IEM's (he hasn't reviewed any other...

    Anyone heard of Minerva customs?

Nudge - did they turn up? How are they? I've had to put mine on hold as the money was donated to help with the NZ quake instead. WIll revisit in a month.

    Etymotic filters in Europe

Legend - somehow missed stoneaudio in my searches (all the others, including pyrom8, that I found are showing sold out) Really appreciate the help thanks ElcomeSoft.

    Etymotic filters in Europe

Cheeky Bump - any ideas really appreciated as otherwise this is starting to get too expensive to keep the well loved ER6i's running.

Can we split off the IEM threads to a different forum?

I concur cap'n. I'm interested in both but it would still be easier to have them split and be able to look though two separate threads.

    Anyone heard of Minerva customs?

I'm not sure I understand that comment. As far as 'look', all customs look pretty similar to me anyway... Besides, weren't the freq customs a budget acrylic option (as opposed to the silicone of these)?

    Etymotic filters in Europe

Hi all, Does anyone know of anywhere to buy etymotic filters (for ER6i) in Europe? I tried the official US website, but the $15 filter cost was overshadowed by the $20 shipping fee!?!?!?! Any ideas appreciated.

Magic news mate - hope they work out well. Can't wait to hear the feedback.

    Anyone heard of Minerva customs?

Very interesting question. The big plus for me is that they are Europe based which makes getting repairs or solving fitting issues a lot lot easier. The other plus for me is Minerva uses silicone rather than the hard shells.

    Anyone heard of Minerva customs?

I knew there was one item I forgot to post in the mammoth update above... Lee said they typically expect around 4 1/2 years out of them. While they are new to IEM's the decades of making ear implants and hearing aids would suggest this is a well tested estimate. Currently they do not reshell...

If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...

I have the Er6i's for 4 years and love them to pieces. I have long lusted after the ER4p however the inability to put the cable over the ear keeps stopping me. Microphonics are a pet hate, so this is a big issue for me. I'm looking for a replacement now as I'd love something with that extra...

    Anyone heard of Minerva customs?

TL;DR: ** Spoke to Minerva today - they came across very very well. ** Their product has been 2 years in the making, with a focus on quality. ** They are achieving high quality for such a low price through the economies of scale achieved through their traditional hearing aid business. ** I was...
