I may well be pig ignorant but my old Fiio E9 can technically drive the 650s to any volume way beyond my comfort, but they sound dismal compared to when driven by the Bottlehead Crack. There's a vast difference between being able to produce enough volume and being able to generate a higher...- grrraymond

Thanks, guys. I should have done much better research, got a bit excited about the prospect of recapturing the BH Crack glory in a cigarette packet. I'll look into the Nighthawks.- grrraymond

If it wasn't clear, I meant 'endgame' subjectively, for me. I want something 'good enough' for the rare occasions I get to sit down and listen to music. If it's not a subjective term, I don't see that 'endgame' means anything at all. BH Crack with HD-650 was endgame for me but a new baby and...- grrraymond

Morning gents. I've recently got back in the game and ordered a Mojo and HD-650 in the hope of finding a very straightforward endgame setup for me. I used to have a BH Crack with all the trimmings and the Senns sounded immense through that. I was prepared for a downgrade but given it's been a...- grrraymond

I'll try to bury my resentment much deeper then! :D Thanks for the sensible words. I'll be back in the game at some point down the line but for now, my listening den doesn't exist so nor does that type of headphone listening.- grrraymond

Thanks for the kind words, guys. I might be back in the game somewhere down the line but my listening den has bitten the dust and there's nowhere else I feel I can store my gear safely or without getting my ear bent about it! I'll be back. Thanks for all the help, support and discussion over the...- grrraymond

Hi all. Due to a new addition to the family, my headphone days are sadly over. I've put my SB'd cap-modded Crack, my HD650s and a couple of tubes (GEC brown base & TS 5998) on eBay UK. They're all pretty cheap. 200 quid for the Crack. 90 for the phones. 40 for the tubes. They've just got to make...- grrraymond

Hehe. I'll just be late... I get £721.78, for two drivers, complete headband, pads & cable, minus special male connection plug and case. I got excited until I realised I'd forgotten to add the headband. Still, it's a fair bit better than £999.99.- grrraymond

This post has been edited to avoid confusion. It appears that you can get a full set of headphones, via replacement parts, for £160 cheaper than buying a full set. Here's the UK link for HD650 replacement parts: http://headphonespares.sennheiser.co.uk/hifi-tv-headphones/hd-650 By my...- grrraymond

This might seem like a stupid question but is there a single part of the HD650 which can't be bought as a replacement part? On the official Senn site, you can buy everything for around 240 pounds. What's missing? The driver? Does the Neodymium Capsule not include the driver, just the housing...- grrraymond

I know several people who would recommend the Bottlehead Crack for both: http://www.head-fi.org/t/476650/crack-bottlehead-otl http://bottlehead.com/?product=crack-otl-headphone-amplifier-kit I run the HD650 with it and it's the best that music has ever sounded to me.- grrraymond

That's frankly beautiful. It makes me want to start all over again. I never gave a moment's thought to the finish or the base or anything, hence my absolute trench warfare trainwreck of a device. One day I'll build another... Also, I really really liked the Pop Art styled Krispy...- grrraymond

This is a false equivalence. The invalidity of your anecdotal evidence does not invalidate opposing anecdotal evidence. Your claim that tubes make no difference and that people simply like the process, because it's 'cool', only tells us about you, not those who enjoy listening to...- grrraymond

I wanted to give myself another couple of days of listening and comparing before a proper reply. I'm happy with what I paid for it, for the relative benefits it has brought. I've noticed sporadically over the past couple of months that the bass is sometimes slightly imbalanced in my 650s, I wasn't sure whether it was just in my head and I actually went to get my ears tested! I'd switched cables and tried them with different sources, same problem. I thought...- grrraymond
