I was thinking of purchasing NuForce HDP but these two are too competitive for me to ignore, and I would like your opinions regarding these two amp/dac within a similar price-range. How do these two compare, and would either one of them meet my needs? I listen to classical music with Denon D7000.

Why don't you go all the way up and get D7000? Really, if you get 5000 you'll always wonder how 7000 will sound like. Moreover, you can get amazing deals with D7K.

I'd like to play ALAC or WAV files without fighting with my friends. They have made it clear that they don't want to install any other softwares. Also, that program looks very promising, albeit branching out... which version should I use?

Yeah, I was thinking of converting FLAC into ALAC. I would appreciate help with doing that!
