R.I.P. Scott Weiland
Well the day has finally come, Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver was found dead on his tour bus. STP was one of my favorite bands growing up and even though he seemed to be living on borrowed time it's still a sad day. Thanks for all the great tunes...- Radioking59

DVD Audio - Dual Disc Format questions
It's hard to say what is exactly on each disc, but they most likely contain 24 bit PCM audio in both surround and stereo. The sampling rate could be anything from 48 to 192. You can use DVD Audio Extractor to rip these files. It's not free but has a 30 day trial that will allow you to rip all...- Radioking59

Guitar-fi anyone?
I'm inheriting a 1955 Martin D-18. I was told it needs the bridge reset and maybe refretted. The repairs were priced at $200 for the bridge and up to $500 if it needs new frets. I'm not sure if I should let my local shop do it or should search out someone who specializes in Martins? Anyone have...- Radioking59

DSD steaming on a PC
The only way to play a SACD on a computer is using a hacked original PS3 that hasn't had it's firmware updated in a long time to rip the discs. This is due to the copy protection used on the discs. Regular DVD/Bluray drives cannot play/rip SACDs. If you are insisting on computer DSD playback I...- Radioking59

Do not attempt to climb Mt. Everest.
I was planning on doing this next week. Looks like I won't now because I wasn't aware of the dangers until I read this thread. Thanks OP, I owe you one!- Radioking59

Anyone who ever tries making music has this problem?
This reminds me of the story of how Townes Van Zandt wrote one of his best songs "If I Needed You". http://youtu.be/Dgcr9qjdUGc- Radioking59

Schiit Lyr Tube Rollers

Schiit Lyr Tube Rollers
You need to chill out and learn how to treat people respectfully. If you fold the packing tape and put it on the tip only for the 2 seconds it takes to get the tube out there will be no residue.- Radioking59

Best recorded albums of all time?
Whoops, I thought it was a live album. Wikipedia says it is. I have all the albums this compilation highlights, so I won't be picking it up. I really doubt it's mastered better than the original releases. The "West Textures" and "The Live Album" CDs have no compression and the SACD of "No Kinda...- Radioking59

Best recorded albums of all time?
Have you compared this live album to "No 2 Live Dinner" and/or "The Live Album"? I was just curious as they pretty much have the same songs but this one was recorded more recently.- Radioking59

Lyr making strange noise
This is a by product of the tubes warming up and not the amp itself. You might have microphonic tubes.- Radioking59

Whisky (or Whiskey) Fi
I've been getting into drinking bourbon straight while listening to tunes lately. Started off with JB white, then EW black and lately have been rotating between Four Roses Yellow Label and Buffalo Trace. I'm eying either Old Grand Dad 100 or Weller 12 year for my next purchase. Any other...- Radioking59

Is there anyway to get rid of static in songs?
"Tape hiss" as it's called is considered a good thing in most audiophile circles. It means noise reduction has not been applied. Noise reduction, while it might remove hiss, will also remove other subtleties present in the recording. It's a by product of playing back an analog tape.- Radioking59

How the West Was Won -- Led Zeppelin
It should have a high resolution stereo track too. A quick google search says it's 24/48. You can rip it with DVD Audio Extractor (Windows & OSX), it's not free but has a 30 day trial. If you use a PC there is a freeware program called DVD Audio Explorer.- Radioking59

Rush 'Sectors' Box Sets
The highest resolution a CD can offer is 16/44. I'm pretty sure the only album in high res is Fly By Night which is on the DVD. You can use DVD Audio Extractor to get the high res stereo off of the DVD. It's not free but does have a 30 day free trial. I just read the Amazon description and I...- Radioking59

This has to do more with the way it was recorded (early 70's solid state gear), than what it's played back on. If the 560 can make those albums sound great, then I might have to pick up a pair.- Radioking59

Avant le Schiitstorm: A Couple of Small Announcements...
It can be done with a HDMI de-embedder. The SACD layer is not 24/96 PCM, it's 1/2.8 DSD. You are correct that no SACD player will pass DSD or DSD converted to high res PCM over optical though.- Radioking59
