The NuForce HEM8's I had worked very well for the genre's you list. I have not heard any of the other HEM iems, but the 8's are recommended.

It would be fun to hear some of the others, but bought the HEM8's and am unlikely to buy any of the others in the series unless they show up locally, and at a very attractive price.   The HEM8's are the best iems I have heard, but I have not heard a ton of them, nor any customs.

Agreed on the approaches to charred wood - with my variable circle cutter, there is NO speed that will not toast the wood, the head doing the cutting is just too big not to smoke.    The hole saws can be slowly pushed through the material without smoking, but it helps if the wood is not too...
