$250 including free international shipping, so not that bad except the international countries list has narrowed down quite a bit

Massdrop should sell it at cost or even treat it as a loss leader. The value comes in getting new people into their store and using their site. Sennheiser probably set a minimum advertised price though as they do with their retailers.

Very bad idea as people are going to buy at the $250 price point. So why lose money for no good reason?

I'm curious to see how these sell this time around. In my experience, the number of requests has not been an accurate representation of the actual demand.

There doesn't seem to be as much hype this time around. I remember for the first drop even a lot of tech sites that don't do a lot of audio content were running articles on the 6XX. I haven't seen anything so far for this drop (though we're still 4 days away). Combined with the higher price, I expect that they'll be gone pretty quickly, but I seriously doubt we're looking at anything like the first drop

I've had a pair of Sennheiser HD555s for almost 7 years now as my go-to gaming headphone. I did the foam mod with them early on and they've treated me well. However, the band is cracked and I can tell they are on their last legs.

I got the Massdrop about the HD6XXs coming back and was psyched! These would make a great replacement. However, must of my gaming now is done on a PS4, and I typically just plug the HD555s right into the PS4 controller's headphone jack.

I've been doing some reading and most impressions and reviews of these are all about their sound through an amp. I'm curious about my use case, however.

Would these sound good (or at least as good as my 7 year old HD555s) just plugged straight into the 3.5mm port on the PS4's controller? I'm hoping the answer is a yes so I can pull the trigger.

EDIT: Oof, 6 month delivery estimate is brutal, though.

I can try it this weekend and let you know. I would guess that the HD6XX would not sound their best out of a PS4 controller though. They don't sound great out of my NWZ-ZX1. When people say you need a good amp to bring out the best in these cans, it's true.

True, but MD didn't advertise it as much. I guess they figured with 50k+ requests (62k+ as of this writing) and only 7,500 units, there was no need for it. Hell, even the announcement email only went out 2 days ago. That's only 5 days before the drop.

I have a set of HD598's that I really enjoy. I'm trying to decide if I should (try to) get the Massdrop HD650's or get a different set that's performance isn't as dependent on it's amplification.
I'm not worried about their portability as these will stay at my house, however I don't plan on buying a different amp at the moment and currently have the Fiio e10k. Some people seem to think the Fiio is fine while others not so much.

I was fortunate to get these in the first drop. ( I don't know how, and would NOT WANT TO RELIVE THAT FRUSTRATION AGAIN.). However, I Iike these cans. For the money and with a good source, these are a bargain. I listen through a cavalli liquid cold, and the balanced cable (also purchased from massdrop) lifted "the veil." The packaging is now cool too, so if you don't already have these and are on the fence I say go fo it....... if you have the gear to make a inestment.

I'm one of those people that find the FiiO E10K capable of running the HD650. I had the previous version, the E10 (not the "k") and it powered both the HD650 and the HD600 without breaking a sweat, in low gain mode. If we were talking about the Akg K701 then I'd advise against the FiiO.

Hmm... Ordered a pair but realized too late that they actually ship in December.
50% off for a 6-month wait; polarizing deal, particularly when I was just curious on how these sound compared to the Hifiman HE400i.
