Aussie & NZ Head-Fiers Corner
It was a very pretty city, and quite a vibrant one as well. However, considering that it is still being rebuilt after the earthquakes, perhaps it would be accurate to say that it is presently a very interesting city to visit. The life is starting to come back to it, and the restaurant and cafe...- waimak

Best headphones for classical music
The DT660s punch well above their price point. I use ALAC and CD as my formats of choice, so I am not recommending cheap headphones that will sound terrible with a quality source. Have a read of what David Mahler says about them in the thread I gave the link for. If you can use open back give...- waimak

Best headphones for classical music
Do you want open or closed? If closed is ok then I can recommend the Beyerdynamic DT660 pro. They are highly regarded for classical music, see this thread: http://www.head-fi.org/t/559542/i-truly-believe-these-are-one-of-the-best-classical-music-headphones-ive-ever-heard They seem to meet all...- waimak

Noble Audio - the Wizard returns!
Well, I got the call from UPS, a couple of days after my K10s arrived in Auckland. The duty was less than I thought, only NZD$203. Now the wait has just got even worse, knowing that they are so close. The UPS site says delivery by end of business on Monday, but I may have to watch my front...- waimak

Noble Audio - the Wizard returns!
Nope, they built them for me and I am super excited with the result! They are still in Chengdu last time I looked at the UPS tracking but it isn't that far from China to New Zealand. Only that pesky Customs interruption to go after that (NZ$350 odd, it looks like. Ouch). I got the email...- waimak

Reply to review by 'waimak' on item 'Sennheiser HD 380 PRO Headphones'
You are most welcome. I can recommend that replacement cable, it makes the 380 so much more portable than the stock cable. Again, congrats on a very nice review.- waimak

Great review of a very much under-appreciated headphone. Just one point, the cable is in fact removeable. It terminates in a 2.5mm plug which has its own housing, it just pulls out of the body of the headphone. Sennheiser sells a replacement stock cable, and you can get after-market straight...- waimak

Mr Speakers Ether
Looking at the page it looks like it is new, rather than a mod, depends on how you interpret "ETHER is built around MrSpeakers designed single-ended planar driver." Not completely sure on that though, it could be just a fantastic improvement on their present drivers. I have to say that it...- waimak

Noble Audio - the Wizard returns!
Just on that last bit, can I just add to the general good feeling by saying that the service by Noble (Brannan and Sunny for me so far) is just first class. I am a keen reader of this particular thread and have to say that I think that the engagement of the various Noble representatives is just...- waimak

Aussie & NZ Head-Fiers Corner
I tried both (yes, we only have two) and unfortunately it is a two hour drive to the next set of audiologists, which would make for some very expensive impressions. That is what I shall do. Cheers.- waimak

Thanks heaps for the reassurance. I have been asking around to see if anybody could comment on reputations, but it seems that nobody knows anything and I have had to just book and hope.- waimak

I will answer my own question and just say that I am getting my impressions done through Bay Audiology here in Timaru next week (right before Superbowl!). I will update how it goes. What was interesting was having to explain to the two different audiologists what CIEMs are. Doesn't really...- waimak
