    FLAC advantage

Quote: There are differences in the lossy encoders. That means there are differences in the audio you can hear. Quite simply, no, it doesn't. Not all differences in an audio signal are audible. Are THESE differences audible? Well, maybe. Compare the two yourself in whatever way you...

    FLAC advantage

Quote: What's really irrelevant is you still going on about cars when he was simply attempting to make analogy related to AUDIO. I guess there's some kind of communication problem here. (For future reference, if someone says that to you, they mean you're not reading their posts.) I'll...

    FLAC advantage

Quote: Put it a bit differently then -- there's no need for the scientific method in a hobbyist forum. You can tell a car enthusiast that their Ferrari won't do 55 on the freeway any better than a Yugo, but which car do you think they'll buy? That's an irrelevant comparison. "Ability...

    FLAC advantage

Quote: Yes, true, I just get a little ansy around audiophiles and their placebo. Makes me want to punch things sometimes. You might want to avoid threads like these, then, or at least be very careful about what you say in them. As A/V forums go, Head-Fi is heavily subjectivist, so...

    Best US$40 or under headphones

Having heard all three (yay, I feel so special), I'd rule the XD200 out. The HD201 sounds better (IMHO), is more comfortable, isolates better, and is more portable. So it's between the HD201 and PX100. The PX100 does sound better, and it's more portable, but the HD201 is cheaper and isolates...

Ranking for last 3 Sennheiser generations?

    There are actually only a few rules that even approach constant... HD500 < HD570 < HD590 HD515 < HD555 < HD595 HD525 < HD535 < HD545 <= HD565 < HD580 (afaik, never tried the 525 and 535 myself but they were at the bottom of the old line; HD545:HD565::HD580:HD600) Exactly how each of...

HD650 or Power Cord. You decide

This is an extremely easy choice for me (HD650), but I'm biased. Quote: I certainly didn't want to immerse myself in the midst of a Cable Agnostics vs Cable Believers thread, but, I am very curious about something. For the people that don't believe power cords make a difference... do...

Need a good deal on the HD 280 Pros.

That is an excellent deal if they don't ream you on shipping, but unfortunately they do ($15 is cheapest method, afaict). $85 shipped (with second day shipping, no less) is still pretty good for a brand-new pair, though. You could try buying locally. Know anywhere that does price-matching...

Thinking about upgrading for better sound, but where to start? (~$200)

I'd hardly call experimenting with different sounds "wasting your money." You might actually turn out to prefer the Grado or HD6x0 signature to anything you've heard so far. Again: what is there that stops you from trying some of these expensive headphones out in an audio store before buying...

how do the various senn 5XX and 6XX models differ in "flavour"

Ahh, I see. Thanks for the help. Honestly, I doubt many here would say that the HD650 really is the "world's best" headphone. The fact is that information on any web site should not be taken as gospel. You're welcome to let it influence your opinion, but taking a product listing as complete...

Thinking about upgrading for better sound, but where to start? (~$200)

My opinion: try a new pair of headphones. Grados, maybe. If you can afford it, toss in a cheap amp (Go-Vibe, CMoy, etc.) too. Headphones will deliver the most immediate and biggest upgrade, regardless of what else is in the chain. You'll probably hear flaws in your music with revealing...

Er... my apologies, but I simply can't understand what you're trying to say. Could you rephrase it for me? If you'd like, you can post it in your first language and I can try to translate.

how do the various senn 5XX and 6XX models differ in "flavour"

Quote: Things is, any less bass and more treble would be an unbalanced sound for me. I perceive my HD650 as flat as the Stereoplay measurement tells, so I know for 'rationally certain' that I belong in the pro-650 faction. But 'knowing' that you would prefer the HD650 isn't the same...

how do the various senn 5XX and 6XX models differ in "flavour"

IMHO: I'd say the 580/600/650 family is more.. thick, I guess, than the 555/595 (no comment on 515). They also sound more lush, intimate, laid-back, whatever. I don't know that I'd call any of 'em "neutral", because I have a hard time saying exactly what "neutral" means. The 580/600/650 family...
