The Little Dot Mk IV / SE Impressions Thread
Hi, I want to try using my mk iv as a pre-amp. I would be using it with this integrated amp doing power amp functions: http://www.soundstage.com/revequip/shearne_phase2.htm Unfortunately there is not much info available about this amp, so I can't find out if it is DC coupled. Any...- redrum42

Little Dot Tube Amps: Vacuum Tube Rolling Guide
Quote: Thanks for your suggestion. I'll get some of them. Any signal tube recommendations that would have softer treble than the rca black plates I am currently using? Thanks.- redrum42

Little Dot Tube Amps: Vacuum Tube Rolling Guide
Quote: I have what I think are the stock tubes that came with the amp (bought this second hand), and a pair of rca black plate 5654s that came with it. I cant hear much difference between these two when it comes to the ultra-highs. Keep changing my mind on which is harsher.- redrum42

Little Dot Tube Amps: Vacuum Tube Rolling Guide
Hi guys, I have a mk iv driving HD600s. I love the sound of the HD600s on all frequencies apart from the very top end. I find the ultra-highs to be a bit intrusive and harsh, making hi-hats and certain cymbal blasts too piercing and prominent. Any tube recommendations to take the edge off...- redrum42

Dilemma: Should I not believe any reviewers who talk about cables or just ignore that section of their review?
So I was just reading this thread because I have always wondered about the cable debate. You guys seem to be talking about capacitance and inductance, and whether that has any effect. I'm not sure about that, but it seems to be that impedance would effect frequency response anyway. I studied...- redrum42

Little Dot IV with HD600 and difference to SE?
Hi there, Just wanted to ask. Is the Little Dot IV (not se version) a good match for HD600? Would it also be good for Grados? (I have a custom woodied pair). I am thinking about buying a second hand one for £150. Is that a good deal? And is there much of a difference between the...- redrum42

HD600 sounds brighter than Grado???
Thanks for the great replies! cucera: yer, I guess the wooden cups reduced the highs a bit. I didn't think it was that big of a difference though. And yes I think you are right. I think the reduced bass and the much less intense transients in the upper mids make the really high...- redrum42

HD600 sounds brighter than Grado???
Hi, So I just picked up a pair of HD600s yesterday used: thought it was time to hear what the fuss was all about. What confused me though is how bright they sound - there is loads of upper treble making cymbals louder and more piercing than I am used to. I am coming from a long time...- redrum42

Difference between Grado sr125i's and Grado sr225i's
Huge definitely isn't the word. I upgraded to a pair of 225s from my 80s and quickly sold the 225s. The differences were audible but hardly of a higher class. I couldn't decide which sound signature I preferred - they were just different to my ears. For the difference in money I really wouldn't...- redrum42

How do you wear Grados?
Just wondering how different people wear their Grados. Do you wear them tight or loose on your head? Do you wear them ON your ears, pushed forward so the whole pad is on the ear, or do you wear them around the ears so your ear is enclosed in the bowl (for bowl pad users that is). It seems...- redrum42

Driver "doping"
So, you often hear about manufacturer's "doping" the drivers with some compound solutions to alter sound signature and increase performance. I'm curious about the science behind this. Any ideas how this works? I am fairly skeptical that painting a compound onto a driver can really improve...- redrum42

SR60-Mod part II
I just put my drivers in wood cups, so I don't need the extra bass boost now. The problem is, since the holes are normally covered by some fairly thin felt, simply re-covering them with tape or something like that won't do because that will block ALL the airflow. Need to reduce it but not block...- redrum42

Grado RS1 holes vented?
Hi, Does anyone know how many holes are vented on the driver in the RS1. I heard different things, from none, to four. Does it depend on when if was made? If someone who has an RS1 could shed some light on this it would be great. Thanks Andrew- redrum42
