Wells Audio - Impressions & Questions
Hello everyone, I'm using Wells Audio DAC level 1. I am very happy with it considering the price I paid. I brought to try it on my friends' system, everyone agrees it's one of the best bargain in audio. However, I have an 'audio-upgrade' disease, so I want to upgrade. May I know what may I...- quanghuy147

Wells Audio - Impressions & Questions
Hi @Bonddam, A friend of mine listened to my Wells Cipher DAC and would like to buy a used one. If I remember correctly, you used to have one for sale. Is it still available? Thank you!- quanghuy147

Wells Audio - Impressions & Questions
Thank you for your explanation. I understand now. I agree that Cipher is very alive, honest and holographic. By honest, I meant that some DACs tend to make the sound thicker making it more tangible. Up to a point, they make the sound thicker than how it should be. Cipher in contrast doesn't do...- quanghuy147

Wells Audio - Impressions & Questions
Hi Bonddam, That's interesting. However, I don't think I got the story. You sold Cipher to a buyer, he then bought Tron r2r and decided to return Cipher to you although the Cipher is better than Tron? May I know if I understand it correctly?- quanghuy147

Wells Audio - Impressions & Questions
Thank you everyone for your input about the tubes! Today, I tried to the USB and compared with Coax. I like the USB more than Coax. The sound is cleaner and less noise. Edited: I found the cause for the drop of the volume, its because the software I used to play DSD (Audirvana) was set as "...- quanghuy147

Wells Audio - Impressions & Questions
Thank you @OceanRanger and Bonddam! I have the same feeling with OceanRanger, Cipher is very natural and relaxed but it still keeps the details. It's more detailed than my Schiit Yggy 2 and more relaxing than my previous MHDT Orchid DAC. I wonder how this is possible considering Cipher uses...- quanghuy147

Wells Audio - Impressions & Questions
Hi everyone, I just got my Cipher Lv 1 DAC for a week. I'm very impressed of how it performs. The current tubes I see in the DAC are branded Westinghouse. I read some posts here and see you guys mentioned TAD tubes. I don't know if my Cipher's tubes have been changed or not? What should be...- quanghuy147

Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread
Sahmen, I am sorry to have made it sound like a tease. I found that the outcome is the synergy of the components in the system. In my system, here are the setups I have experimented: A-generic power cord with Yggy and Shanti power supply + iFi purifier for the streamer. B-generic power...- quanghuy147

Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread
Who wish to upgrade Yggy A2 to another DAC please read this, this could save you thousands of dollars :) I have been using my Yggy for about 2 years now. I had it with A1 board then upgraded to A2. Recently, I have been looking to upgrade it to another DAC. I did some research and learned...- quanghuy147

Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread
Hello, I'm considering the USB Unison upgrade, which is said to extend 2 more years of warranty. However, I am not the original of the item. I wonder if Schiit honours the warranty for non-original owner in this case? Thank you.- quanghuy147

Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread
I'm sorry for being confusing and thank you for your reply. What I meant is BNC-BNC digital cable vs RCA-RCA digital coaxial on Yggy. I have been using BNC-BNC digital cable and first tried RCA-RCA digital coaxial and experience the less open sound. I don't know if it is about 'burn-in' issue.- quanghuy147

Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread
Do you think BNC and Coaxial have the same sound quality on Yggy A2? I have been using Blue Jeans BNC for years , yesterday I got a Coaxial cable and tried it, the sound is less open than the BNC. Could it be 'burn-in' issue? Thank you.- quanghuy147

Life after Yggdrasil?
Thank you all for your input. I have just tried to ordered the A2 upgrade on Schiit website. However, I couldn't get around the shipping option. Because I live in Socal so I want to drop off/pick up my Yggy instead of shipping them. It seems that Schiit website does not support that option. I...- quanghuy147

Life after Yggdrasil?
Could anyone help me to compare Yggy A2 to Holo Spring 3? I am using Yggy A1 and want to upgrade to either A2 or Spring 3. Is it worth $550 to upgrade to A2? Thank you.- quanghuy147
