I'm hearing the left channel in both ears. Why?
I have picked up several sets of headphones from the local state surplus sales. I recently got a pair of Sony MDR-7506 that a needed a new plug. I installed one (Canare F12). Now it is weird. If I mute the left channel at the source I hear sound in only the right driver. If I mute the the...- mfaughn

Wasn't there a point after Jan 2010 at which updating your drivers required a firmware update as well?- mfaughn

Musiland Monitor 02 US
Hi all, Wondering if anyone could answer a couple of questions for me? I bought a Monitor02 that was shipped to me on Jan 2, 2010. I never upgraded the firmware or installed any drivers other than the ones it shipped with. I lost the CD long ago but am 99% sure that the driver install...- mfaughn

Which USB DAC? -- as good or better than Monitor02, <$250, and plays nice with LINUX(!)...and I don't care about plugging headphones into it.
Quote: Thanks, I found strong indications that that was the case but it is nice to hear it stated definitively. I think the MusicStreamer is going to be my graduation present to myself. I just have to finish the incomplete that is my senior software project. Getting school work done is...- mfaughn

Well, I've pretty much decided on the HRT MusicStreamer II. Seems very highly regarded for the price. As I said, I don't need a headphone amp in there with it. I have a couple of amps already and am amassing piles of parts to build something else. As for the comments on the Yulong not...- mfaughn

Quote: This is true in some ways and I hadn't really thought about it much. The computer I'm contemplating using it with has S/PDIF out now. My hesitation is that I have *many* computers and it would be nice to have a single device that worked with whatever hardware each has --...- mfaughn

Quote: I definitely need something with RCA output at ~2V or more. HM-101 is a no go. What was wrong with the U100?- mfaughn

Quote: Yea, I know. Mentioning Linux hopefully ensures that I don't get suggestions for one of the few that doesn't work with Linux. I offered to take a look and see if I could help out writing some drivers for the Monitor02 but they weren't interested (which isn't surprising). I...- mfaughn

I've just been reading a bit about whats out there now. The popular contenders appear to be Audio GD NFB-12, Yulong U100, Audinst HUD, Maverick D1. Between these I lean towards Audio-GD and Yulong. I am really only interested in DAC performance and am wondering if there are any "just a USB...- mfaughn

Good, cheap, Linux-friendly USB DACs?
No worries, I'm still glad you mentioned it. I haven't checked in on FiiO since they were making the little $20 job. Good for me to see what they are up to. I might be back on the travel horse again soon and if that happens I'll be looking for portables.- mfaughn

Good, cheap, Linux-friendly USB DACs?
Hmm, hadn't seen the E7. Not really ready to be a source for anything other than headphones, so...nope. Uses TI USB receiver so good with Linux though. Why are people still eating at MacWindows anyway? oops, that's off topic...- mfaughn

Good, cheap, Linux-friendly USB DACs?
Well, I own two USB DACs that will not work with Linux. I know why they won't but that doesn't help me very much does it? I can pretty easily tell that the Monitor02 is better than the 0404. I have just been reading that the udac-2 is a good unit but perhaps not quite the equal of the...- mfaughn

Good, cheap, Linux-friendly USB DACs?
Hi all, I have switched to linux almost entirely (soooo nice to be free of MS / Apple). I still have one computer (out of at least 15 in my home) running Windows because my DACs must have it (Musiland Monitor02, Emu0404usb). I have some unassembled grubDAC proto parts but my vision is...- mfaughn
