I have picked up several sets of headphones from the local state surplus sales.  I recently got a pair of Sony MDR-7506 that a needed a new plug.  I installed one (Canare F12).  Now it is weird.  If I mute the left channel at the source I hear sound in only the right driver.  If I mute the the right channel at the source I hear sound in both drivers.  How is this happening?

90% sure you wired up your new plug wrong or you have a problem with your ground wire.
