I haven't even gotten Lyr3 out of the box yet.

    Schiit Valhalla Tube Rolling thread.

The Holland-made Amperex came, finally. They sound lovely, although I think one hums a little. Listening to my first test album had me whistling along with it, which is rare and a sign that I'm enjoying myself a great deal. Lovely tube. Very nice so far, and yet another new sound from the...

Both cats wake up and glare at it whenever Bifrost clicks. Poor disturbed kitties. And yes, I am ignoring Jot2 to listen to Valhalla. Rolled the tubes and am deep in tube bliss. :)

Huh. I just realized I'll be driving through LA next month. I could stop at the Schittr and see it for myself! That might be cool... my wallet is making unhappy sounds, but I'll have an empty station wagon... the possibilities are endless! Well. Not endless, but pretty wide. Not sure where...

Geez, go to San Francisco for the day to see the ballet and come back to umpteen new pages. Y'all are unstoppable! Went to the SF Ballet today. Performance was "A Midsummer Night's Dream" AKA Fairies Mess With Everyone. Music was live, which was lovely and reminds me what we're trying to...

You people are insidious! I was considering them except I don't even have an amp they'll fit in!

I met a Richard Off. Unlike Mr. Head, Mr. Off owned his name, and would stick his hand out to shake and say, "Hi, Dick Off." with a completly straight face.

Well, my first tubes arrived, and they're in and singing. It's hard to quantify the differences because a/bing takes a while. These are "Amperex Orange Globe 6922/ECC88/6DJ8 Tube Pair", not one of the suggested ones from above, but one that caught my fancy and I'd heard the name someplace...

I wonder how the 12au7's I have in black steel envelopes would work with the black Valhalla 2... have to find them.

For those of us with multiple headphones, which ones are you listening with now?

I've had these new Focal Elexes on my head since they arrived, and am enjoying them greatly. Bouncing between Valhalla 2 and Jotunheim 2, depending on if I think tubes will sound good with it; both amps are stacked right here, ready to go as my whim changes. Been listening off YouTube today...

I've taken the plunge on a a couple of sets of tubes, one the Dutch Amperex 6922's. The picture shows the large halo getter, which seemed fine for the price. Thanks for all the very helpful advice! Now I just have to wait for them to arrive.

For those of us with multiple headphones, which ones are you listening with now?

Trying the new Focal Elexes that arrived today, which means The Beatles again. Really loving this remix, and am thrilled they did something so powerful and yet subtle with Sgt. Pepper's. It would have been easy to ruin it or make something garish and new, but they chose not to. If you haven't...

    What's new after 20 years?

The Focal Elex has come from headphones.com. Box clearly labels it a Massdrop product, which headphones.com failed to mention. That's no biggie - it explains the low price! - but was a bit of a surprise. So far - two minutes in - they sound very nice indeed. Clear and musical, although not...

Classical Record Collection Needs New Home

I've spoken to the local record stores, and the 78's have been a hard no for all of them. The 33's could go to a couple of them, but since they're classical the price they'll give me is tiny. Local record swaps and meets are a good idea I hadn't considered yet, though! I've got someone from...
