Just got my Fiio E17. Pretty awesome! I can already notice sound quality improvement. When connecting the amp/dac to your laptop, what do you leave the volume settings on? i.e. laptop laptop volume at 50% and let the amp/dac control the volume?   Also, what do you leave your amp/dac gain to?

I put an order out for a pair of HE-400's. Can't wait for them to arrive soon. However, I also read complaints from some people about a faulty driver. How can you tell if the headphone is faulty? Is it a matter of hearing them out? What are the signs of a faulty driver?   Hopefully the ones...

Standard mp3 files at 192kbps is just "average"?   Where does one obtain audio files from? CDs? Torrents? Special sites? Itunes? If I am spending $400+ on cans and an amp/dac, I would like to hear "quality" sound.
