Help Picking Out New DJ Cans (~$150)

Could you explain a bit "the sound was essentially designed for DJs"? Any links you could offer?   Also, how big of a difference is there b/w the sound of the LP and LP2 (and is it a good or bad thing)? I only ask b/c I am on a budget and it seems like there is a bout and $80 spread b/w the...

Help Picking Out New DJ Cans (~$150)

Hey all-   I am looking to get a new set of cans for DJing. I DJ old school hip hop, funk and soul, and a tiny bit of electronica. For background: I previously had HD-25-II's. I had no complaints, but I wouldn't have minded slightly more bass on the low-end, I thought highs could be a...

KRK KNS-8400 Review (Impressive $150 headphone)

Is it reasonable to say that they are both acceptable choices, but the hd518 will likely be a bit warmer and perhaps have a bit larger soundstage, whereas the 8400 will be a clearer and more accurate portrayal (which can be both a good and a bad thing depending on the person's tastes and/or the...

KRK KNS-8400 Review (Impressive $150 headphone)

Hey guys, after a lot of research and debating I was just about to order some hd518's for my dad, and the salesperson at headroom suggested these may be a good alternative. My pops likes vocalists especially, such as Tony Bennet, Frank Sinatra, Simon and Garfunkel, etc and also listens to a...

Best headphones for listening to jazz vocalists??

Anybody? I would like to order these today, and I cannot locate any local stores to test these headphones myself? Main questions right now are: 1) are the hd558's $50 better than the k240 or k271 And 2) is the k271 or k240 better for listening to jazz and vocalists? (Isolation is not needed)

Best headphones for listening to jazz vocalists??

Hey guys, sorry to be wishy-washy here, but when I started this thread way back when the 555's and 558's were going for a little over $100 shipped. Now, I can't find the 558 for hardly less than $175, and this is the model I would seek after reading the reviews regarding the difference in...

Best headphones for listening to jazz vocalists??

Hey, so I think I want to get him the Sennheisers. Just a few questions:   1) Is there any significant difference b/w the hd555 and hd558? Would one be preferable to the other for listening to jazz?   2) Does the hd558 benefit from the same mod as the hd555, or would they sound better as...

Best headphones for listening to jazz vocalists??

idk, I thought i read that, but looking at the product specifications the 271MKii frequency response is listed at 16k to 28k hz and the 240MKII is listed at 15k to 25k, so I would assume they are different drivers.

Best headphones for listening to jazz vocalists??

Acix would you recommend the K271MKII over the K240MKII if having a closed headphone is not necessary?   It is my understanding that the K240 is essentially the K271, except the K240 is a semi-open design. It's always been my understanding that 90% of the time you are able to get a better...

Best headphones for listening to jazz vocalists??

The 555's were the ones I originally thought seemed like a really good option. They seem extremely comfortable from their looks and what people say, but I just didn't hear anything about their sound that was what I would call a glowing review. Everything seemed to be "decent" or...

Best headphones for listening to jazz vocalists??

Hey thanks for the reply.   Could you clarify what you mean by the i-cush pads?   I mentioned the K99 b/c I was at Guitar Center and the store manager mentioned them to me, but I would expect most of the headphones there to be for studio/dj applications, so he might have just been...

Best headphones for listening to jazz vocalists??

Bringing back a dinosaur here guys. I have to shamefully admit that these headphones never got purchased.   I am about to order these cans for my dad, and I have it narrowed down to: -Grato SR80 - not sure what the diff is b/w the 80 and 80i models -AKG K99 -Audio Technica ATH-AD700...

Best headphones for listening to jazz vocalists??

fwir, the other options I have listed offer a larger soundstage than grados, which I think would be beneficial for jazz listening. I have also read that the HD 555s are warmer and better for listening to vocalists than the Audio Technicas. I have also read many people saying that grados are not...

Best headphones for listening to jazz vocalists??

So after doing some research I think I have narrowed it down to either the Senn 555 or the Audio Technica ATH-AD700. To me the Senns look more comfortable because the ATs look massive, but I have read a lot of people say they are very comfortable. I have also read that the AT offers slightly...
