  The thing about 598s is they are so accurate - if there is not much bass in the recording there won't be much bass heard, but if there is bass it will be heard, accurately. I hear plenty of bass punch when it's in the recording.

      OK then - fair enough.  I'll re-phrase my post:   Use EQ as you wish - this is all about what sounds best to each individual.  I maintain that the amp I currently use is an excellent match with these cans - to my ears, without any external EQ, and I like it that way.

Stay away from eq - a really good amp will increase the low end punch in these phones. I use a Schiit Asgaard and it seems to be a good match.

That's what I was hoping to hear.  I also have the Cardas cable with my 580s - looks like I'll be trying a Desktop out.  I like the Headroom option of allowing straightforward returns if it's not what I am looking for.  Thanks for your input sir!
