Proper headset = a bunch of those gaming headsets. The K550's work better (than the HD25s) for gaming though. Not so much for music.

If you're talking about gaming, then they excel in that respect as well. Definitely better than any proper headset I've ever used, closed or not.

From what I understand of it, it allows analog control of the gain, like an analog amp does. The result is full dynamic range at all volumes, like it does at full volume?

I currently have Sennheiser HD650's and HD25-1 II Adidas. My sources are either an ODAC+O2 or a FiiO e7. I also have a Galaxy S1 and 32GB iPod Touch 3G as portable sources. I can't seem to justify buying anything else, as anything else is either ridiculously expensive or inferior.

Sennheiser HD25-1 II's are nice and fun, especially for metal and rock. Pretty well balanced, but with a nice little bump in the bass that isn't too extreme.

I haven't looked at the DT1350, but did a little research on the K550. From what I've read, it'll be a little too closed sounding for me.. unfortunately, because I really like how clean they look. I'll read up on those Beyer's though :)
