Creative Aurvana Live! Review and Mods

CAL's are typically associated with having a livelier bass than most other similarly priced headphones. If you are into electronica or house or any beat oriented music I would go for the CALs. Dave Brubeck sounds pretty good as well. The King of Limbs fits the bill (in my opinion). I think I've...

Creative Aurvana Live! Review and Mods

Quaresma,   If you can't find anything you might consider cutting up some Husqvarnas or other cheap work/ shop headphones for their interiors and cut them to fit into your creatives. It'd  be a $20 USD option if you cant find anything else.   Cheers, Cookies

Creative Aurvana Live! Review and Mods

Hi Mike,   Sorry to hear that. It still sounds repairable though if you are unable to find a replacement. What I did was punch the broken screw through the plastic of the arm with a drill press (after removing the arm completely) and then I found a screw of similar diameter and cut it to the...

Creative Aurvana Live! Review and Mods

Hi MagicMan,   Thanks for the response. I have heard about this fabled "Fostex/Foster" driver elsewhere, and I was wondering what the hubbub was about. Now it comes to me I am thinking I was reading a post about the new CAL2 and CAL Gold / Premium or whatever that Creative is about to put out...

Creative Aurvana Live! Review and Mods

WOW! MagicMan,  I did not realize that the denons were so similar to the creatives! Looks like the exact same drivers? Cups are almost the same, and looks like the same swingy arms.   So I contacted customer support and yea I don't have a warranty (got my unit off ebay for $50, and I've opened...

Creative Aurvana Live! Review and Mods

Hi Mike,   I relaize this is a couple of months down the road - hopefully you have solved your problem. I actually just got the same exact break on my CAL headphones. A real shame. I think it is partly because I made wood earcups which are a bit heavier than the stock ones. I have contacted...

    College Kid Budget Headphones

Have you looked at Koss PortaPros? They have the bass that it sounds like you are looking for, and they work well with glasses. They are, however, open, meaning they won't work well in a loud environment, and someone may slap you in the library if you put them on loud. And you can put all sorts...

Koss PortaPro Review and Mods ("Concept" Review??!!11one)

Yes Ive heard this before and the "comfort zone" adjustment on the portapro does change the distance of the ear to the driver, and can reduce bass...but i find i like the bass xD.   I have thought about recabling them... if not just for the knowledge gain in soldering and audio...and for a...

Koss PortaPro Review and Mods ("Concept" Review??!!11one)

I performed the quarter mod on the portapros yesterday and it does make a noticeable difference. The highs are a bit more pronounced, but the signature portapro bass is still there, maybe slightly less in my face though. The change is just enough that I'm not going to do the kramer mod... that...

Koss PortaPro Review and Mods ("Concept" Review??!!11one)

Hi all,   I am relatively new to audiophilia but I just felt like writing a review and ask some questions about these phones...and since I was told once to write about what you know, I'm going to center the brief review about Radiohead's In Rainbows. I don't purport to "know it", but I have...
