Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review
IMO the cable is just a POS. I've done this but the cable always finds a way to stay permanently contorted and warped.- bartlett

Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review
For me, these first 2 can be harder to listen to, due to the treble. Usually I have to turn the volume down a bit: With this one, I definitely need to turn the volume down due to the treble. I am not a big fan of how it sounds on the X00. Maybe the HD6XX was better, but nothing notable there...- bartlett

Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review
Oh wow, for $35 it makes no sense to not do the mod since it seems to offer a noticeable improvement. Yeah, times definitely have changed. $350 down to low $100s for what is more or less the same headphone is crazy lol If I can find some CAL! SEs for a low price like you did for your...- bartlett

Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review
Those are two I've been thinking about, but I'm not sure if I'd like them enough to justify the price. I'm sure that after a few hundred dollars, the value curve goes down probably exponentially. I think I'd be okay with spending as much as $800 on another pair, but they'd have to be...- bartlett

Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review
I have the X00 PH (got them during their first drop) and just recently bought the HD6XX this Black Friday. I am a bigger fan of the X00, though I do like the HD6XX in certain areas--both of them are great cans for sure--but, I find myself looking for something better. For those that currently...- bartlett

Yamaha hph mt220 thread (Merged)
So I tried the Brainwavz HM5 Velour Standard pads and installed them on the MT220 and I must say, it was terrible. I ensured a proper installation, unless there is a particular "direction" it needs to be installed in? It ruins the characteristics of the MT220 IMO. Thoughts on this? I...- bartlett

I'm surprised you said that the MT220s blow away the 650s. In what regards?- bartlett

After some more listening, I think I like the TH-X00 with proper EQ better than the MT220. The MT220 has certain qualities to it that absolutely warrant keeping it, though.- bartlett

Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review
Hmm so it seems like you think the MT220s are about on par with the X00s, at least in terms of value. I somewhat agree. I think the X00s are better in resolution, bass decay, bass impact, and soundstage, and they seem more natural sounding (less metallic). I wish the X00s were a little...- bartlett

PHs sounding better than HD650s? In what sense? I didn't think they would. Serial numbers are also just stickers. Once I found that out I didn't care.- bartlett

Yamaha hph mt220 thread (Merged)
Okay I think the X00s are technically better, but the coloration the MT220 provides could make for a more enjoyable listening experience. The X00s are maybe 20-30% technically better tops, mainly in terms of airiness, weightiness, and resolution. They also are ever so slightly less sibilant. ...- bartlett
