Sometimes I have bought headphones that were a big disappointment. I had expected better. My biggest disappointment until now was Sennheiser PX200. How could Sennheiser produce headphones nearly totally clean from bass?
What is your biggest disappointment of headphones?

Believe it or not, none with my three recent purchases:

Audio Technica ATH-A900
Future Sonics EM3's
Bang & Olufsen A8's

I'm satisfied with all three.

I think the biggest dissapointment was the Shure E3. From what I read, I was expecting easy-to-insert-and-manage canalphones that had a decent sound for rock and acceptable bass in relation to everything else. What I got was something that either didn't fit (flex sleeves) or was painful (clear sleeves), and a sound that was jumbled, confusing, and downright dangerous IMO.

That's followed closely by the sr60. I was expecting something that could be plugged into an ipod or a computer and sound decent, forward and fun. What I got was something painfully bright, and harsh and completely lacking in bass. Also headache-inducing. THat's why it took so long to try out the ms-1's.

Etymotic ER-4S. I thought they would be perfect for work, but I can't stand them in my ears. When I'm not severely uncomfortable though, they do sound great.

Koss KSC-55. Imho they don't sound nearly as good as some similarly priced sony headphones.

Ultrasone proline 2500s. I expected them to be neutral, clean and with a punchy bass. The bass has developed after a lot of burn-in (note no real use of them, they were so bad out of the box I couldn't stand them for more than a few minutes), but they are still irritatingly bright and sibilant from any source. Also I'm still staggered that they cost as much as hd-650s, given the poor quality of construction.

AKG K141S -
Flowing but flat midrange, lacking in warmth and articulation. Feels 'washy'.
Good highs, and pretty decent low bass, but an annoying 'hump' in the upper bass.

I've been pretty happy with all my purchases. The HD570 didnt really work out because it was too open for my needs, but its really not as bad as people make it out to be.

I did find the A900 dissapointing to hear after all the hype though.

Sony CD3000 - I so wanted to like these every time I listened to them (stock, recabled, etc.), but alas...
