Westone UM3X Thread

Hmm well many seem to think that. Their specs on westone's site are the same as well. I would imagine they do use the same drivers, even though the ES3X cost twice as much.

Well then epic win of course! http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f103/i...earing-454174/

Can pay $80 (roughly) and get them into custom molds. $460usd vs ES3X $800 (I think) is great

well the main difference is that, while the drivers are the same, they are tuned differently for their respective shells ( custom and universal ). So at the end of the day buying a um3x and having it re-shelled wont be quite the same as getting a ES3X, as your setup is for universals and not customs.

Yeah, I figured it would be something like that. But hey, I don't want to be buying a new pair of comply's or anything like that constantly, as they are expensive and won't give as good of a fit as a custom shell will

My next IEM I hope to be is the JH 13 Pro, but the UM3X is good enough for now.

I might sometime soon. It will lose a lot of resale value probably, that's quite a big problem for me.

I used to consider this too. Then I got my first pair of customs (JH13s), and they really aren't as comfortable as the UM3x. If you had something like the IE8s, which is hard to get a good fit for, I'd understand. But with the UM3x, the fit is perfect and so comfortable, it just doesn't make sense.

I get a horrible fit with mine. I use the small comply and it stays perfectly in my right ear but isn't that comfortable, and the one in my left ear canal is loose and I have to move it around to get good sound out of it. I can't get half of the standard comply into my ear canal, I dunno how others can, that's crazy.

Well I am broke now and will be for a while I think. I planned on buying a pack of Shure olives, but at $30 or so a pack, they aren't cheap, especially considering I have no idea which size I need to get.

Have you tried the "mushroom" silicons (the gray ones)from Westone. I have small ear canals and the small ones sound and fit great for me.

One day when I get rich I will. All these damn eartips, It's going to take me months to save up and try each one to see which one is for me. This is the reason why going custom would be a good option.
