The gamer in me got the better of me, I jumped on this deal as well.
And got a 1070 GTX graphic card right beforehand for 363eur. Goodbye 1Z for now

Hi guys,

I just purchased a WM1Z from Amazon UK, and I just realized there is a volume cap for all EU version. So is there anyway to pass it yet? This is my first time to buy a Walkman, also buy from EU region......

Thanks!

Protect your ears!
Volume cap is good for us but nobody cares about its advantage when the time comes.

That's like $950.
Either it's not selling too well or nobody's buying it at full retail.

Actually, no.

If you add it into your cart, then you will see the REAL price w/o VAT. It would be around $700 depends on the shipping method. I just bought one 1Z and 1A. There is no stock of 1Z right now but a few for 1A. You could have a try.

So how can I pass it..... Then is no "High Gain"!

High-gain is very important. My noncap WM1Z without high-gain on, I needed 90-100 volume to be adequate using Balanced 4.4mm to Z1R. Then high-gain took it up to 70-80.

Now, volume capped unit has max volume at 100 instead of 120. You think it would be good enough to drive headphones at 100 ?

@Whitigir : You sure ?
I have a EU WM1A unit  (therefore volume capped) unit and the max is at 120.
I don't have a high gain option anywhere in the menu.

That's why I am asking how can I pass the cap...

Someone might post the service menu boot sequence, that would allow to bypass it (at least, apparently it did for previous Walkman models)
Otherwise, it's import from Japan but you have no warranty I think given Sony's policy.

This volume cap (crap ?) is still nonsense given the difference in output with different gear, Z1R is a good example.
Just like Z7 with EU ZX2 was nonsense.

I get the idea of protecting people's hearing but they can get to a concert and get deaf just as easily or simply get an amp... they should stop treating us like children. Hopefully the UK with Brexit might allow us to get gear from Europe with no volume cap...

That's exact what I am thinking......

On the french tellementnomade forums, I remember a post saying that going from 100 to 120, each steps increased volume more than below 100. Coul you comment on that?

I plan to go directly to the Sony repair center in my region which is 10min away from me once I receive my unit from Amazon.co.uk. I want to ask them explaining carefuly with as much rational sense to them about this whole issue, and see if they can adress it, maybe unlock it or heck might try to get it exchange with an international tourist unit to bypass the cap.

I'm really eager to try the Empire Zeus R with the WM1A, and see for myself if it hisses distractingly enough before I sell of my DP-X1.
