As a professional this standard baffles me, because the 4.4 plug is big, adapters to change it to something else would necessarily be big, not that we have access to cable mount jacks for it anyway; out of the box there's no easy way to use existing balanced gear with it, nor is there any way to use the Z1R out of the box with other balanced stuff.  Sony could easily have paid a few bucks to get some 2.5>4.4 adapters made up, I know what they are worth to manufacture, and it's about 2 dollars each.

It's not 2 dollars. Sony source all their 4.4mm jacks and plugs from NDIC which is currently the only supplier that makes them in large quantities, and NDIC is already not able to keep up with the supply enough as it is, plus as NDIC developed the standard they are trying to recoup on their R&D before all the knock-offs comes on the market.  There's no way NDIC would let Sony have these plugs and jacks for 2 dollars a piece when NDIC is currently able to sell them at 5800yen a piece on the DIY market and it STILL sells out within minutes.

I am still trying to find these 4.4

They are all snapped up by cable makers which are offering them as a termination option with their cables, with tiny quantities (like literally a dozen per lot) for the DIY part shops.

It's win-win business wise for the supplier and cable makers - don't expect that to change any time soon.

I meant i need it for my DIY project...i dont want 3rd party cables lol
Be patient they'll be available relatively soon. All the aftermarket cable makers are trying to get quantities of them now. We've ordered different brands in for variety of choice and it seems they are not real easy to get at the moment. I haven't seen them internally yet but I'm told they are not real easy to solder cleanly either.

where can i get the wm1a in Vancouver
The 1A is expected in late February to early March. We are currently pushing Sony to bring it in sooner. As you can see with Amazon UK going dark on Sony Signature Series product Sony is changing the way it's being accessed by consumers. For those that pre-ordered from Amazon UK, the orders will be canceled and refunds issued is what Sony says is going to happen. Apperantly they (Amazon U.K. or any out of territory dealer/distributor) were never authorized for any sales outside of their specific territory. This is consistent from any region.
