Awesome, looking forward to your take. Wanna share a few impressions?
I haven't done the colume matched comparisons yet Vince - but a short sum up would be:
- Typical DUNU build quality (extremely good) and innovation - including bass rings to block the port and raise sub-bass
- Great accessories
- Improvements in features that were troublesome to me with the DN-2000:
Knurling on the nozzles to help tips stay intact
Slightly smaller diameter to help with fit (makes a difference for me)
- A brighter upper mid-range and lower treble - this I think is the biggest overall change, and it's not too much either - it just brings out the detail a bit more (perfect for female vocals too). Very clean and clear too. Has a nice refined feel to it.
- I find the bass to be perfect - nice impact, not overstated. Does very much depend on tips though. I'm using Sony Isolation tips and getting a perfect seal. Also I think it could end up being very dependent on source. 8ohm output impedance indicates you'd need a DAP with a pretty low OI - under 1 ohm for the right damping factor. With the Fiio X3ii and X5 - that is no problem. I need to try the 2000J this weekend with my X1 to see if there is any difference in bass.
I think the biggest thing for me is that it doesn;t "wow" me OOTB like the A83 or even Titan did. What has done though is slowly grown on me all week - so reviewing it has been pure pleasure so far. I was at my desk last night (working) and instead of plugging my T1s into the iDSD, I actually just reached for the 2000J and paired them with the X3ii. Defintiely didn't feeel like I was missing anything.
As far as value goes - they're not going to outmatch the Titan $ for $ - but as a flagship for the DUNU line, they are worthy of the name IMO.
