"The Lab"

  Hahaha it's too embarrassing.

Two 5 drawer rubbermaid stands filled to capacity, plus a large brown box, plus anything visible on display on stands.

Despite all of that, only the AKG 7XX, Dunu Titan 1, and these new KZs get any play time. It's just wrong. lol. Only the strong survive.

Would love to read your thoughts on the two new KZ models :)

Don't expect it to be = A83. That IEM (A83) is bordering on the Rare Air side of $$$$.... I suspect that Dunu Found out that they shot themselves in the proverbial foot with the Titan 1 so they had to come out with the NEW flagship 2000J so everyone wouldn't be flocking towards their lower priced IEM. JMHO

Truthfully, yeah the Titan IS that good. Check out the thread. It's very quickly become my GOTO.

I'm a "90% sound of, for 50% off" kind of guy. So if A73 is close to that ratio I might be in! I have been torn on the Titan for some time, hearing such great things about it. It seems to be one everyone should have in their stable. I had my heart set on the A83. Seeing as how I pulled the trigger on the Pono last week, I'm hoping to buy one last IEM to rule them all... for a while. I mean, by all means PLEASE save me money. I'm kind of back in bed with my TF10 lately so maybe I should just hold out.

Hey, any labsters in the Tampa area want to lend me their titan/a83/equivalent for a few days???

If I only had $10 to spend-ed9

If I only had 25 to spend-ed9 + ATE

If I had 50 to spend- ed9 + ATE + piston 3.0 (or T1E)

If I had 75 to spend- mkll m-1 (epic sound) or the Fidue A65 or Havi b3 pro1 + ed9 lol

If I had 100 to spend- Titan

If I had 125 to spend- Titan + ed9 + ATE lol

If I had 150 to spend- Fidue A73 (no doubt about it)

Brooko, You know I'm just yanking your chain, don't You? I just happen to respect your reviews quite a Bit. Even if you take forever to get to them....

Yep

Sorry - I'm never going to be a rapid turn around reviewer.  I like to give myself time to get accustomised to the gear I'm reviewing -so that normally takes about a week before I even start critically listening and writing.  Probably why my reviews turn into a short novel too

I'm going to start writing up the 2000J this weekend.  I got it 8 days ago.

Awesome, looking forward to your take. Wanna share a few impressions?

Are you getting DN2000J?  I'm afraid it's going to be too bright.  Will wait for Paul's review, but I think from some impressions I read it could be too bright for my taste...

Defintiely not too bright for me Alex.  Very detailed, and amazingly clean sounding.  Wonderful balance.  If there is one to top the A83 from my list - this is the one.  I'll be doing critical comparisons this weekend, then should have more detail.

WOW The new KZ stuff seems too good to be true. Those ATE at $ 9.98 are really nice looking. I'm beginning to regret buying the pistons 3.0 at $19, i could get both ED-9 and ATE for the price! But were is the ED-9 in the KZ official store? Can't find them...

I haven't done the colume matched comparisons yet Vince - but a short sum up would be:

  1. Typical DUNU build quality (extremely good) and innovation - including bass rings to block the port and raise sub-bass
  2. Great accessories
  3. Improvements in features that were troublesome to me with the DN-2000:
Knurling on the nozzles to help tips stay intact
Slightly smaller diameter to help with fit (makes a difference for me)
  4. A brighter upper mid-range and lower treble - this I think is the biggest overall change, and it's not too much either - it just brings out the detail a bit more (perfect for female vocals too). Very clean and clear too.  Has a nice refined feel to it.
  5. I find the bass to be perfect - nice impact, not overstated.  Does very much depend on tips though.  I'm using Sony Isolation tips and getting a perfect seal.  Also I think it could end up being very dependent on source.  8ohm output impedance indicates you'd need a DAP with a pretty low OI - under 1 ohm for the right damping factor.  With the Fiio X3ii and X5 - that is no problem.  I need to try the 2000J this weekend with my X1 to see if there is any difference in bass.

I think the biggest thing for me is that it doesn;t "wow" me OOTB like the A83 or even Titan did.  What has done though is slowly grown on me all week - so reviewing it has been pure pleasure so far.  I was at my desk last night (working) and instead of plugging my T1s into the iDSD, I actually just reached for the 2000J and paired them with the X3ii.  Defintiely didn't feeel like I was missing anything.

As far as value goes - they're not going to outmatch the Titan $ for $ - but as a flagship for the DUNU line, they are worthy of the name IMO.

For the KZ ATE owners: What color did you choose (silver or translucent)? Thinking on translucent here...

I have the VSONIC VSD2 / AN16 deal still in transit and already buy the piston 3.0. Now the KZ stuff... Head-fi potential to empty our wallets is just awfully incredible!

What, some hours work in my warehouse and a couple of kids soccer game and I'm over 100 posts behind, how can I possible go to sleep now

Everytime me put on me Havi B3 Pro1 ....still gives the chill ....amazing soundstage ....ME FAV

+1, the B3's and CKR9's are really the two IEM's I'd need. To bad it took almost a hundred to find out and now I can't stop buying them :)

Must resist, must resist............................so is it AliExpress or Penon:blink:  LOL

I saw them on Aliexpress as low as $51 just earlier today

:) Wokei, Have You heard the TITANS? I have the Havi's ( burned in 300+ hours), for me personally, there is no comparison. Just my opinion, but In fact I just listed My Havis bundled with my IE8's on Fleabay.

:) :) TWIN

To me the B3's arw more enjoyable than the Titans. Different strokes for different folks, ymmv etc etc

There's something about the Titans the makes me feel bored with them pretty fast. Actually it's the same way that I feel about the Tenores and KC06's as well. There's just something missing there for me to enjoy them over time. I fo find the Titans to be great at the gym though.

I don't want to jump the gun, but the A73 might be the best sounding IEM I have. The extension, separation and balance is amazeballs.

You my friend got my full attention

Surprised I haven't seen this thread before. Subbed.

Yes, the ED9 and ATE are awesome bargains for $10 each. Ditch the ATE memory foam tips though, they kill treble detail significantly.

Welcome, we've missed you here.

I use Sony hybrids on the ed9 with brass filters. That's an epic combination.

I use wide bore tips (Lunashops red/gray) with the ATE. The ATE really needs wide bore tips to sound it's best.

I like the ED9 with brass filters best with the Fidelio S2 wide bore tips (which are very similar to the wide bore grey/red ones from Lunashop). I actually prefer these tips over the spiral dots with a lot of my IEM's.

I don't think they're available there for some reason.....

Great impressions Paul!  When you're writing full review, if you get a chance please compare it to A83 and Altone 200.  Of course I realize we all hear things differently, so relative comparison will be helpful

This thread moves very fast, you blink your eyes and it's 150 posts later the next day lol!!!

Btw, your first impressions about ATE and ED9 were SPOT ON how I describe them a few pages back, including close similarity in looks to IM50: http://www.head-fi.org/t/751177/the-lab/6255#post_11621210
