With the DX90 you might not need the external amp. I'm hoping that it'll do well enough on it's own that I can stop using my SR71-B on a daily basis

Do you guys think there'll be another FW upgrade?

1.2.8 seems the most stable (& some say best sounding) of FWs, for now.

An update with more functions and fixes is always accepted.

So long as the 1.2.8 sound signature remains I will be happy. Would like to give Rockbox a try but it seems very complicated. What do you have to do to install it and is it easy to go back to the original if I struggle with it?

Installing Rockbox is almost so smple as installing the new original firmware, just one more step. After installing you can decide to boot to the mango or to the rockbox. And you get all the functionallity and settings of much better software.

As he said, its extremely easy. Its basically the same as loading the factory FW. I have it installed but dont use it because the RB UI is less efficient to use (more taps to achieve the same thing), I like the sound of .8 and dont have any issues with it.

That said, everyone should install it, because why not?

The DX50 is sligggghtttly  wider than the C5.  I like that as, when I pick them up there is a very slight lip to hold on to.  The color is a great match, they look like a matched pair, as opposed to with my C3, which appeared to be perched on the back of the C5.    Is the DX90 going to be the same size?

Yes DX90 is the same size as DX50 and C5/C5D matches perfectly in size. Too bad I didn't like C5D in combination with DX50 and JH16 when I had it compared to UHA-4/UHA-6SMKII. I was reluctant to part with it because it was a perfect fit when stacked with DX50. But it was just collecting dust in my cabinet.

I'm using the DX50/BH2 combi for some time. Headphones like AKG K701, Beyer DT880 (250 ohm), Grado's PS500 & GS1000 are easily driven by this combi.
Now I'm on the fence for a (second hand) pair of Hifiman HE-4's. I read that they need al lot of (amping) power. Anybody out there who tried the HE-4's with the DX50?

I've tried a vintage TDS-5M ortho with the DX50, does that count?

You will definitely need an amp. DX50 alone will struggle to drive HE-4.

So, the (extra) C&C BH2 will probably not do the job sufficiently?
