What do you want to achieve?
Balance output, Digital Tranport or just Amping the DX50?

It's possible to keep it down to one Amp + DX50 depending on how you answer the above.

Now the HD800 is not quite portable, that's pretty big headphones and renowned to be difficult to drive so the amp might either be big or the battery is not going to last as long.

I don't own any so take this with a grain of salt. Looking at ALO Audio site the two are a beast, I would not call that portable and tube sticking at the top, you might break those during transport. This kind of setup seems to be more appropriate for a desktop rig.

I am getting hiss via the ho with my westone 4rs.

low gain is the way to go on dx50 for high fidelity sound.

another advice i would suggest is turn on EQ and set all sliders to zero, cleans sound good way. with EQ set off i feel dx50 FW boosts some frequences in unwanted way and may cause for hissing.

How do you find the instrument separation on DX50 compared to RWA100 and C3, Gintaras?

H20, i find separation and stage layering better on RWAK, between DX50 and C3 i find DX50 offering better rendition especially when amped from line out it gets closer to RWAK, C3 is real good and not distant third place but C3 is more midcentric biased IMHO.

Putting the resolution of DX50 aside , which it does have good aspects I still found C3 to have superior seperation as a single attribute or technical area. That was one thing I picked up on, I also found the soundstage wider on C3 but, I think DX50 is a more musical and higher resolution listening experience . I just couldn't handle the instruments smearing and narrow stage compared to C3 or even further the hisound players , it was clearly obvious the were stronger in those areas, why I sold the iBasso in the end, partly why anyway.

H20, in my experience amping dx50 lifts the bar very high, so line out is far superior to c3 amped. without amping dx50 will be more aggressive and overimposing so you have a point here. C3 is midcentric and organic sounding DAP which can do some things very right and i love it. But amp your dx50 with line out and the game will be over

I am amping the DX50 with a Xin Supermacro 3 with OPA627 and it is starting to blow me away...simply stunning!
