No doubt the X5 will sound great, my only gripe with it is the control by mechanical wheel 

  instead of touchscreen, really like the DX50's touch screen.

 
i prefer a mechanical wheel. the dx50 screen is nice. but i am wary of its longevity

Yes I've got a 3.5mm interconnect from the line out to the input of the PB2 running SE. I run all my IEMs you see in my signature and mainly the Mad Dogs because they are closed. The sound is excellent, comparable with a decent desktop setup and IMO is better than my Audio Gd 15.32. I think the iBasso house sound is what the DX50 sounds like but just more refined and detailed. I can't really explain it. Did I mention you can opamp roll.

Yeah I slipped down the rabbit hole of PB2 op-amp rolling a couple of days ago - the thread is packed with so many numbers and comments and references, my head was spinning.  The pictures were of no use - total mystery.  But interesting.

I like PB2, but sometimes I wish they have a gain switch....instead of gain jumper...

That's interesting, most people (me included) would be more worried of the mechanical wheel's longevity! A touch screen has no moving parts and is much less likely to get worn out. I've never heard of a touch screen going bad, but have seen plenty of broken control wheels and buttons etc.

I was thinking the exact same thing. My DX100 has seen 1½ years of daily use and is still purring like a kitten.

well if the touch screen is resistive, it could be a problem, but capacitive touch screen on the DX50 shouldn't have any reliability and longevity problems imo...

Let us know if that worked. I know that certain electronic devices hate to be "skip" upgraded - they need to be updated by every firmware release - maybe the dx50 is one of them

downgrade back to 1.2.0, the bootloader got to update backup and screen turned back. I used volume + and power on to factory reset and reboot.
 
loaded some burn-in files and changed the usual settings - brightness, gapless, APO etc. No microsd yet.
 
*crosses finger* apparently the gui became more refined against the over sensitive 1.2.2 (direct upgrade from 1.1.6 to 1.2.2) - there could be files missing (rather than optimize?) in 1.2.2 due to large file size difference, 
 
would update if I encounter any hang ups. after one-two day, I upgrade to 1.2.2

It makes no difference flashing firmware in order, or skipping versions etc. Flashing replaces the whole thing, there is no missing files or anything. going from 1.0 to 1.22 is the same as going from 1.2 to 1.22.

The 1.2.2 update zip is only 85mb where the 1.2.0 was 135mb so I can sorta understand the concern. Unless, off course, they just deleted 50mb of bugs...

I'd bet that's exactly what they did! Bugs arise from inefficient coding, eg, excessively long command chains. so they probably deleted or merged a lot of code and reworked it to be simpler and more efficient.

Either that or they turn on compiler size optimization versus speed execution flag.

Also just noticed in my case (1.1.6 to 1.2.2 to 1.2.0 current), play mode can be clicked using the icon unlike with the jump to 1.2.2 - I need to go settings menu.

1 hour with the burn files stored in the internal memory, no hang ups yet; so I installed a 64gb exFat formatted class 10 microsd (with 18 songs uncompressed flac). Media scanned and hang, so I turned off and rescanned, hang for 5 secs. I think it's still media scanning even though the media scanning splash is gone. I wish for a better status indicator "busy" or "pop up to say that the media scan is actually done

Hmm this is why ibasso has not yet published 1.2.2 in their site?

By the way Fiio X5 is confirmed of having 7 op amps!, four OPA1612 as Amp and LPF, two LMH6643 as Buffers, and one other, and 12v of voltage swing. I personally really like these choices and am certain to purchase it now. Get ready, I can tell you the X5 is going to have a very enjoyable sound, these op amps coupled with the PCM1792 DAC will be very detailed, balanced, smooth yet energetic (hard to conceive, yes) and I have a feeling there will be some who prefer the X5 to even the hm901 and dx100. I'm pretty excited about it. Have to wait till march though
