Sometimes I forget that I'm not the only one who reads about this inane stuff. LOLLL

Quick question of the day: My friend is looking for IEMs under $250.

He described his taste as "intense" sounding. Based on his music taste (folk, indie, emotional stuff) I deduced he would do good with mid forward with good bass. He's averse to sibilance (like me). OTOH he wants something forgiving that can do well with various things. I'm not looking for a perfect answer, just suggestions.

Any thoughts?

Easy: Etymotic ER4P.

The 7550 is amazingly underrated. I dont know why it didn't make a huge splash on head fi given that it's a more forgiving EX1000. Initial availability probably hurt it but you can get it on Amazon now for cheap...

Perhaps less people are sensitive to treble spikes than you think. If you can tolerate them, the EX1000 are simply more exciting.

Though I agree, current 7550 prices make them a great buy.

I missed the whole origin of "Chiri-chan"....

Me too, but I think it's about the 7550.

I decided a long time ago to name gear that I love to the characters from this anime. So far only two made the cut. One of them is the MDR-7550. The other named is Nami-chan the modded T50RP as a recap.

Finally I am ready to bestow a name to my MDR-7550. Since it demands exacting standards to be followed (not-crap recordings, exact fitting, proper mindset) and it also strives to show the proper voice of a recording no matter the cost, she shall be called Chiri-chan. <3

Gladly she's not exactly the same as her namesake, but I can be glad when it comes to that eventually. :3

EDIT: The EarPods being an exception since I bought that solely for playing a visual novel and bed use.

Wow!  Would you happen to know what the ballpark pricing would be on that?  I just happen to have an HE-5LE in need of repair anyway.  Maybe I could justify this to myself somehow...

Around $350? Looks like more work than the Denon cups($200-$300) but less than a FWJ($350-425). Depending on the wood.
