I've bee really considering new iems. I currently have non monitor imo (beats tour, old bose in ears, and some old vibe duos) but was looking to upgrade to something like sony mdr ex1000. I was interested because of the whopping 16mm drives and have herd great things about the bass. Should I just save some cash and go for something cheaper any thoughts. Thanks

Hello and welcome to Head-Fi :)

The EX1000 has great bass but not in terms of quantity. That is, the bass isn't as loud as what you're used to. But the amount of detail and texture is amazing. So in terms of quality it's the best.

It'll be helpful to know what sort of music you listen to. That way it'll be easier for us to suggest an IEM for you

Aside from Ex1000, check Radius DDM2
this are dual Drivers, will deliver you some quality Bass.
also currently on sale for 200 USD from MA
100$ off so great IEMs very close to the sonys in terms of bass quality

If you want bass quantity like Tour or Bose IEMs then i will highely recommend the Sennheiser IE8(has knob to increase bass, huge soundstage, great mids and clear highs) or JVC FX700(amazing deep reverbing heavy bass with wide open soundstage, very detailed mids and clear extended highs). But Sony EX series(EX1000 are more detailed than IE8, FX700) dome type dynamic drivers are amazing to reveal the details in mids, highs and still fun to listen with wide soundstage and deep punchy bass.

If you want to "try out" the EX1000's sound-signature, you could always pick up their little brother, the EX600, and save yourself some money.

Or if you want an IEM with more bass quantity, I would look into the FX700, Atrio M5 (MG7 driver), or even some top of the line BA IEM like the UM3X I'm listening to right now; the bass is really impressive on the UM3X.

I guess the stylish look and great reviews I've seen from these are drawing me closer to trying one of them. I might just try the ie8 and if not satisfied will return and get ex1000.

Thanks for the much needed help.

EX1000s highly recommended. Also, Atrio M5 [MG7] has great bass.

Actually I wanted build quality too. Atrio doesn't look so durable IMO. My stubborn self keeps wanting to drop it on the EX1000 though even though cheaper alternatives. My second go to was monster pro coppers.

The EX600s are said to be very good as well at 1/3 the price of the ex1000s.  So eventually you're just paying a ton of extra money for a minor bump in quality.  Definitely go cheaper first to see if you find something you love that'll save you some coin.  And since no one has mentioned it...just get the Vsonic GR07.  :)

Atrio is actually quite durable with excellent customer service to boot.

I just got my EX1000's from Amazon, $324 shipped.  I've been using W4's and have tried the 535's.  I would have to drop the EX1000's right in between those two.  The 535's for me were a little too much.  The sound detail was amazing, but something about them were screechy like.  Not a technical term by any means, but they caused me some fatigue which made using them not quite as enjoyable.

The W4's are great, my favorite.  But you'll often see the term "veiled" in reference to them.  Well, for me, the EX1000's are like W4's without the veil.  They have a little more bass (in a subtly good way) and they seem a little crisper/cleaner.  If an enhanced version of the W4's came out I would expect them to sound like the EX1000's :)

So, my new favorites are the Sony's....
