What is interesting in guy stating his Denon 5000 sound better than 780?
Or is there consensus already that 780 do sound better than D5000? I'm not getting it.

I said I didn't think the build quality is all that great for the money. Plastic and very thin aluminum covers (I have a small ding on one of mine already - the aluminum- as it came that way but it is so thin that a few layers of aluminum foil would be as thick) for 250 doesn't seem like the greatest bargain. You can pay around the same for some phones that have nice wood cups or at least have ear pads that can be taken off better or drivers that are screwed into place rather than glued, which makes them very hard to change out if one goes bad. I don't think the ED 9 for 1500 is any bargain either for the materials used, besides the dead animal skin they use. That is how I feel but I still own the 750's, 780's and have the Ed 9 on order.

Well the 750's are mellower in a nice way, the 780's are cooler sounding. I really can't say anything for sure because the 780's are going up and down and up and down and up and down. . . . . they need to settle.

That is what I paid but they have a list of 250 and I think that if they are going to list them for 250 then they should represent a 250 dollar headphone. I have seen the same quality in 100 dollar headphones, as in the RP21's. While the sound of the 21's isn't my total cup of tea I don't see the quality of build as any less and they even have a detachable cord. The phones are listed at 2 hundred and 50 dollars, think about that for a minute. Ultrasone is a German company. I have come to expect quality like Leica, Zeiss, and fine cars from their quality standards. I don't think Ultrasone lives up to this.

On burn-in, I left both the 750's and the 780's on a frequency sweep that goes from about 10hz to 20,000hz and left it on repeat and they both are sounding better. I then did some more pink noise. Got work these babies.

Hehe, I understand what you mean. Well, they are the best closed headphone at this price range, so what can you do?

I guess either buy them or don't buy them but I think that in general mediocre standards are more the standard but if people buy it and accept it then that does set the standard.

I definitely agree with that point. Has anyone ever mentioned this to any of the reps that lurk around here?

In the beginning the 780 was very good with great bass. Then, it was very good with great bass...for the price . I saw a lot of reviews/messages at head-fi mentionning denon 5000 bass not very precise so .....
I'm still looking for the best closed cans. I guess it is between Denon D5000 , JVC DX1000 and the AT W1000/w5000. Nothing new.

Maybe, I was expecting too much with the 780. In the ultrasone line you have a $200 780 and a $1500 edition 9. nothing in between alas.

I definitely think the Denon D5000 sounds much better than the 780. MUCH deeper soundstage, and smoother overall sound while still being more detailed, and with more accurate bass reproduction. It's also 50x more comfortable.

It's also 2-3x the price.

My D5000s definitely sound better...but I absolutely love those phones. The 780s are still really good, but as I stated, half the price. Buying headphones is about managing expectations! Also, the state of my own hearing often dictates my pleasure in the 780s.

Which, based on my recollection, would outperform the 780, yes.
