[Review] Sennheiser IE800: Impressions, Frustration and a bunch of What-Ifs

I've just got my ie800s. I loved the details. I just wonder how these german engineers manufactured 7mm dynamic drivers in a unique quality like this. Really good job. Medium tips fit in properly. Finally I recommend these headphones to anyone who listens to any genres of music.

They respond really well to good amplification, so if you ever feel you're getting tired of the sound, find a suitable amp and let the journey begun again :)

Unfortunately no, the volume Up/Down does it work.  We have Apple to blame for that due to their rules and costs for MIF cert.

I wonder why they included two L and only one M.  M fits be best.

I find it odd that the cable does not work with iPhones, so is that to say it only works with Android? Again odd as I've yet to use a remote cable that's "Made for Android and not Apple"

Not majorly fussed as will be using these primarily with an amp, but given the purported bass issue the iPhone has a good EQ app (EQu) to help out, but my preferred player atm is my iPod Classic and of course that doesn't, well, not on the fly and don't think their is a hacked FW for the latest version?

Thanks. Headstage Arrow 4G changed nothing while listening hence I let the amp go i think i don't need that anymore.

Is there anybody here in this thread pairing IE800 with ZX1? Can ZX1 driving IE800 well without amping? Thanks!

]I use this combo. It sounds great. No amp needed; I've added a line out and Pico Slim to the chain and can't tell any difference. I prefer my custom MG6PROs but not by much - the IE800s are that good.

Thanks barnes! Seems the IE800 is very tempting if paired with ZX1!

Having a sony f800 series i can verify that ie800 is not a good match. Now the f805 is only 5mW while zx1 is 15mW so it definitely has more volume output but even at max volume which was loud enough the sound was too veiled and lacked energy.I didn't  have that problem with armature iems but keep in mind the ie800 is much harder to drive that say shure se535.For reference sake i have the shure 535 and fa 4e xb at around 195-198 volume through dx90 and the ie800 around 225-230.

I like the IE800/ZX1 combo a good deal. My custom MG6PROs sound better, but not by that much.

Just bought IE800 and they are amazing!!!
Just one thing that I don't understand, what the hell is microphonics? Cause if it's a static noise or something like that I don't ear a damn thing! And I tap the cable while listening and nothing wiggle my head and not a peep.
So what do you mean when you say microphonics?

Cable noise, 'thumping' that is transmitted up the cable when it comes in contact with something.
