Looks like a beef based soup with flat egg noodles...

Shin ramyun with egg = very good

Pad kee mao from mama = not good

... Anyone wants to trade for my 27 packages of pad kee mao?

the best possible ramen you can get is by doing the following:

chicken flavored ramen

I like my pork ramen straight up with lots of soy sauce and green onion.

It's really not hard, at all, for a quick stock. Get some beef-flavored soup base and pour it into a pot with some water and vegetables of your choosing and let simmer. Add some soy sauce and a little chopped scallion. That's it. Add your noodles and sprinkle a little "Shichimi Togarashi" on and you're good to go with a cheap and dirty meal.

Tomato ramen?!?! - I don't know but that just seems wrong (for my Asian sensibilities)

Instead of a beef soup base, you could also try using Japanese Dashi instant fish soup base, which is often used for noodle soups.

I basically subsisted on ramen all throughout my high school years and I've tried pretty much every brand there is available in Japan and the States. My personal favorites are all Japanese brands that you probably won't find here, that don't use freeze-dried noodles. Here are some you might find that I recommend:

Mi Goreng and MAMA Tom Yum Koong are tasty brands if you like that Thai/Southeast Asian taste.

Nissin and Sapporo Ichiban are delicious with an egg and iceberg lettuce.

• If you want to try soba or udon noodles, Donbei is good, especially the tempura or kaki-age ones.
