My new Joseph Grado HP2i & HP2is
Jun 29, 2009 at 1:54 AM Post #61 of 178
Joe's hearing is still quite amazing and he states he has no significant hearing loss as suggested on a recent audiogram. I have seen him in action with recording sessions and he doesn't seem to miss much of anything sonically.

I agree. The "rehabilitation" which includes new drivers and the new mods are quite expensive. They seem to essentially double the value of the headphones.
Maybe someone can talk him into just doing the new mod. I doubt he'll agree to it but it may be worth a try.

I just hope at his age he documents the details of the mod. The guy is one of a kind, and it's wonderful to see him still active in music and audio.

Putting aside the modding costs for a moment, I still don't know what are the sonic differences between stock and modded one.
Its very emotional to read how magical Joe is, but what's the magic...

Hmm, getting back to the price, he could sell us HP2i for $1200 with stock cable and $2000 with cable upgrade. I'd go for the former (wouldn't really, but could be a nice deal)

Well, I'm studying electronics so I could ask someone experienced at my school but it could end up as a $600 mistake ...

For those who are wondering, I'm sending them to Rhydon at Symphones, will report back when repair will be done!

Hi guys... I'm now testing 3 amps for my beloved HP2i:

1) EAR HP4 with NOS fivre tubes
2) Melos sha GOLD
3) Millet 307a

No doubt for the best with the "old" Grado...

Millet 307a at the first place !!!

Before I got to line six I saw line four and thought "I'll bet the 307 is the winner".
