Hey OP. Read your other thread "perfect headphones for $300" and at the end you said you were set on the Denon D2000. Did you not buy them?

No, I started reading it over again and honestly, I did a horrible job on the search.
Going by your post count, I'm really surprised you still haven't found a headphone to suit you. Have you auditioned any and what were your impressions? Just goes to show how hard it is to find the right one, especially for the genres we listen to. It's hard to know which artists record their songs properly and which ones don't. I'm still searching. Ordered some CAL!'s off amazon as they are 33% off. Also looking at some ultrasone HFI 580. Dunno if either will be good, but If I don't try I wont know.

Unless you missed it. It looks very interesting and if it works I'll definitely be buying it. Need the extra bass for pop groups like AAA and for immersion in Anime, but need more forward vocals for rock groups like Scandal. Can't wait.
Since you bought the CAL, I'd say that you would be satisfied with it for a while, such as I did. I find that the CAL have just enough bass for pop but the vocals a a little bit recessed, IMO. Not by a lot, I still like vocals in songs that doesn't demand bass in it, but when there's bass it's slightly overtook by bass. Of course this is all IMO, and all to my taste, grain of salt needed.

I'm sure we are doing the OP a favour by bumping his threadAnd you can only PM once a day (I think)
I'm not really interested in modding, especially when it costs more money, as Id rather spend that money on a better phone, plus it also voids the warranty. I just want something that works out of the box. You mention in your profile that you love your midrange. What kind of "j" songs do you listen to? I'm interested to see how they sound.
I personally wouldn't be satisfied with the ones that were listed. The Kenwoods are expensive, hard to source, and if you don't like them you're stuck with it since you can't return it. I have a small head and the denon's were too big for me. Felt like they were about to slip off. I only got to sample them so can't really make a good judgement on them but for their price they didn't instantly blow me away which I expected them to. I've tried the a700x and a500, and I didn't like the ergonomics. It kept slipping off my ears. They had a surprisingly decent amount of bass though. Soundstage felt quite big from memory. From the review of the koss they sound like they have forward vocals and are intimate, but then they would only be suitable for listening to music. Which types exactly, I'm not sure, but they wouldn't be suitable for watching anime as well if that's what you are after.
What kind of attributes are you looking for? Do you want something bass heavy, v-shaped, mid-centric, or neutral? I don't really like the vocaloids that you posted, don't really listen to that genre, but with my Panasonic HTF600's they sounded good. Really good seperation and I could hear everything clearly.
My best advice would be to try as many headphones as you can. I don't know where you live so I don't know what equipment you have access to. Before I started buying anything, I didn't know about all these sound signatures and how different things sounded etc... I just thought if I spend a decent amount of money I'd be blown away. I wasn't so in a way the money I've spent has been kind of wasted but I have a better Idea now of what I'm looking for than I did before.
Any more links of the type of rock or pop songs you like?
I wasn't really all that happy about picking blind. The thought of no return for the Kenwoods scared me so I'm probably not going to get those. I did try the Denon's (AH-D2000 and AH-D5000) when I was in Japan. I'm fine with them. I like how they don't pinch your head and I won't be moving much when I'm using these cans since I'm going to be at home.
Personal opinion on what you like to listen to. Anyways, Vocaloids and most Japanese music tend to focus on the mids and highs. I'd like strong mids and highs but great bass would be good too, so that kind of describes an all around headphone which would be the D2K's but I remember earlier something about recessed mids or something about these headphones. I don't know, I'll have to look.
Oooooo You've been to Nihon? So jealous.
I wish Audio technica would just release a headphone and specifically advertise it for Japanese songs. Can't believe it's so hard to find the right headphone from AT. Non of their models seem to really suit me. Any idea of what people in Japan buy?
