You are definately in the minority regarding R2R, to get a Delta Sigma that is a sonic equal you need to go to very expensive DACs.

Or expensive and rare NOS DACS... that may or may not need to be rebuilt at additional expense..
And that is all a matter of opinion at that...
Minority status conferred because most have no frame of reference.. perhaps.  More, What have I read versus what I have actually heard...

If HiFiMan can cram two PCM1704 R-2R chips in the HM801 for around $800 then surely it can be done in a DAC the size of the LC. Also just found out about the HiFi-ET MA9 DAP (around $800 as well) that uses two PCM1704 R-2R chips as well with modular boards in a portable DAP.

The idea of keeping the LC footprint doesn't seem as far fetched as I had thought. The price however I would guess to be around $880 for SE and $1200 for balanced.

Wow, soekris at $1200-1500. Some guy that will build a dac for that. Unbelievable, that peeps woud buy a no name over a well established , word renowned manufacturer of dacs and amps like Hegel.please read the reviews of Hegel amps , pres, and dacs.before killing me.

I wanted to buy the soekris until i heard the price. I thouhht 700 would be fair for a no name.

Based on the LC, if anyone can make a small, worthwhile, balanced R2R DAC at a lower price its Dr. Cavalli.

That's why many of us asked for R2R and $599 SE instead of balanced. We audiophiles are not an unreasonable bunch of people, right guys?

That makes sense, though a couple Guys on the R2R Thread just pointed out a couple portable R2R DAPs. Also Schiit should eventually have an R2R upgrade board for the Bifrost. Lots of great DACs out there, preference is entirely subjective.:beers:

Agree. The MB Bifrost should arrive soon.

Just the board costs $235 for the 1021-2 version mate, you might want to get out your calculator first before throwing around assumptions like that

As for footprint, I'd like the width to match the LC.  But if it needed to be taller, or maybe a bit deeper, I'd be quite okay with that....

@Stillhart , can you list some affordable R2R DACs? Ideally under $1000, used or new, doesn't matter. Thanks.

Just go for DAC-19 and you'll never look back. It's THAT good.

You guys want an r2r dac at 6x6 inches under 800 dollars. Good luck baby!!!

Battery DAC $235 on ebay uses Philips tda1543.  Sound is pretty good for $235, but obviously not in the same league as the LC.
