  . . .

Electronic music is my favorite.

. . .

Since I'm going to be listening to music on my PC the guys at my local PC part store told me to get this sound card called:  Xonar Essence STX link to the soundcard is here http://www.asus.com/Essence_HiFi_Audio/Xonar_Essence_STX/   I do not know if this is a good sound card or not they just said it's the best bang for your buck soundcard for audiophile headphones.

. . .

I do live in Canada so prices on headphones are a little more expensive thought i would add that as well.
  1.

Honestly, get the Fidelio X1 and Asus Xonar DG.  Anything else, and you've messed up real bad.

Are you talking about getting these headphones? http://www.amazon.com/Philips-X1-28-Over-Ear-Headphones/dp/B00B3QD94O

Also what genres of music are they good for? would a xonar essence STX sound better?

Those are the headphones - http://www.amazon.com/Philips-X1-28-Over-Ear-Headphones/dp/B00B3QD94O, and they aren't intended for every genre, but I don't think you should sacrifice your favorite genre just so you can experience something else occasionally.  The Fidelio X1's are going to be a "WOW" experience for you - that's guaranteed.

Save your money on the sound card: 1. the DG punches way above its weight, and 2. for the difference in price you can buy real audio equipment that you can easily transfer from setup to setup.

They will do great for most of those genres due to them being tuned to be slightly bass heavy(but by no means are they basshead cans) and has almost every genre I've treid them with down pat. I think you will be amazed with just how complete they are. But as I mentioned, they are around $140 more than the X1s.

As for the soundcards, personally, I've had supposed "audiophile grade" soundcards, like the Omega Claro in my signature and to be honest, they are only trading size for sound quality, they sound fine, but they aren't the best at the price point. A decent stack like the Magni/Modi from Schiit or even one of the second hand GeekOuts in the for sale forums would give you a bigger sound, so unless you are short on space, I really can't recommend them with a straight face.

ok thanks ya i am a complete noob when it comes to audiophile grade headphones and amps and dacs and what ever else you call them i am looking into what you suggested to power them right now so you are talking about this http://schiit.com/products and http://schiit.com/products/modi

Correct?

Would that work good with the sennhesier HD600's? or would you recommend me not getting the hd600s?

my vote:  Fidelio X1 and Asus Xonar DG, and then zip your wallet and pull the velcro over it before disaster strikes.  Your enthusiasm is awesome, but have you even heard any of the Senn's?

Those are the ones. 3rd pic shows how they are used together since size and design are basically identical.

Wouldn't recommend the HD600 for any of the genres you mentioned, it has great mids with a clarity to them that is very engaging for vocals, but it's rather light in bass, not to mention rather slow. You'll notice it rather quickly with EDM and trance.

If it's a choice between the X1 and HD600, I'd pick the Philips.

Ok thanks ya i was worrying about the slowness of the HD600's but everyone seems to really enjoy the hd600's so i was just going to get them anyways because i have been contemplating on what headphones to buy for like 2 weeks and a half now so i am kind of tired of looking at videos/reviews of headphones and i just want a pair of headphones already.

Are the L2 Fidelio Open or closed back headphones? and i would say my budget for headphones is 500-600$ and what ever else i need to power it to make them sound good i will buy also

It says they have a mic? does it have one i can use for skype / vent or what i dont understand also they say they can be used for cell phone calls?

i will only be using these at my PC listening to music i wont be using them outside the house also to answer your question about space earlier i have room for what ever need be aslong as its not a huge stero system thing lol but ya

i like dubstep / trap / hiphop / electronic music pretty much all electronic music and i do listen to other genres quite a bit

i just really want a pair of headphones already lol kinda getting frustrating on knowing what pair to buy because there are so many out there and i just want a pair i can fall in love with :)

Also where i live they do not have much headphones you can try on so when sombody says just try the headphones before you buy them i can't do that so it kinda sucks or i wouldn't be asking all these questions.

All Fidelios are open-back headphones. I've never tried the Mic on the L2 but given the mic on my Fidelio S2 earphones works with everything from gaming to Skype, I would think the L2 would be much of the same. As for buying it, getting both the stack and the X1 will be just under $500, and will be more than enough for your needs. Unless you feel the need to splurge, anything above that $500 budget is luxury at best.

Doing research is good, but I normally recommend asking for a few(2-5max) models based on the music you enjoy, then just pick one which will fit you best based on said research. Otherwise, you're just going to end up confused and not know which is which.

The Modi/Magni Stack is a little bigger than the size of my hands, so they should fit nicely beside your monitor if you are putting them near your PC.

well if you say the L2 Fidelio are better than the X1 i would get the better headphone also how does that work the modi and magni since i will be using them on my PC do they just hook up to my PC with a usb or what ever and i just plug my headphone into the amp/dac and im good to go? sorry i am a complete noob when it comes to all this lol i am more of a hardware guy but dont know much at all about headphones and amp/dacs.

And yes i will be using them on my desk next to my pc/monitor i would have room

Yes, they are plug and play, hook Modi to your PC, link them, plug the headphones into the jack of the Magni and you should be ready to enjoy your music within 15mins.

And I meant better in terms of pure sound alone, but if it's price to performance the X1 more than holds its own against many $300+ headphones if you're looking of a fun sound.
