FiiO just announced a nice accessory for our X5 ...

The FiiO F5 In-Ear Monitors come with a Smartphone cable (switchable between iOS and Android) and a 2.5mm balanced cable.

Look forward to the first reviews ... hopefully soon ...

My Fiio music wont even start, it loads with a black screen and then says 'sorry an exception occurs' It does this in Android and when I also switch to pure music. I've twice deleted the cache, data, album art, removed database, then it starts with the 'tuition walkthrough' I scan for music, then at the end of the scan process it just freezes again and I can't start it. I've pretty much given up on this app and using third party apps now.

Yeah that is same error I get every now and then on default fiio app.

No offense, but you are taking logic shortcuts to rule out causes.

Power draw: Did you only check your port or did you check WHILE the device is plugged in? A USB port can seem fine, but it's during connection that the power draw issue would occur...

Compatibility: USB controllers can have incompatibilities due to drivers or hardware

Software: Android isn't just an OS, it's also a kernel with drivers... There's also the OS layer which is used to send the protocol used to transfer info to and from the device.

I also have an Intel USB 3 chipset which is working fine with this, so must just be a specific model...

Overall, this issue will most likely not be solved by us. Fiio has to voice in on this... I'm glad you have a workaround, but not all of us have that luxury.

My USB Multimeter is inline, it is used to measure the voltage and current delivered to devices and it proved that the ports were operating to specifications.

I have android devices running Marshmallow and Lollipop, they all connect to my ports enabling file transfer so it is not Android, however, it may be Fiio's modifications to their Android system causing the problems.

I agree with your statement that it will not be solved by us.

I am Very Happy with the X5III and I will be keeping it as it sounds amazing with my B&O H6 2nd Gen headphones.

Oh God, no more toys.

I am already having to hide my headphones as I keep getting told off for buying them.

Edit:

I just read the link they look impressive, I guess I will be getting them when they are available.

I have some strange issues @FiiO

1) whenever I let my device on idle for long, and restart it , it goes a particular song. The song is beautiful but it is one song it always restarts from.  I have tried thinking what could be the reason but I have no idea
2) There is an audible "click" when i move from one song to other (24bit Flacs)
3) This one too is bit odd,  Fiio's randomiser or shuffle seems to have a set pattern.  I have two micro SD cards 128gb each, full almost to the brim. However, Shuffle seems to be following a "route" like I can now tell what song will come next.

On a good note,  I have rediscovered my love for Offspring and Motley Crue, they sound soooooo good.

I also had that problem, before Fiio Music stopped working completely. Resume kept going back to the same song, even if I pressed stop and then restarted a few minutes later. Or if I turned it off. Had to keep finding the album I was listening to, but at every stop or pause it reverted to an old track I was listening to a few weeks before. I cleared the cache and data, rescanned and now the app won't work at all!

Good news for the USB. It discounts that.

I doubt Android OS is at cause, but don't discount Kernel driver, which is part of the OS (Which has nothing to do with the kernel drivers in your other devices)... I feel like it's either a kernel issue or SoC (hardware) issue. Rockchip are notorious for having quirky issues with kernel drivers and hardware, hence why I think Fiio could solve this... But documentation from Rockchip is few and far between... :\

Hi, I have just checked Device Manager and confirmed it with Aida Extreme, I have;

Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.0
USBXHCI.SYS.

I am completely baffled by this as because like you, my older Fiio works fine.

As others say their X5 3rd Gen's are connecting and functioning, could mine actually be defective even though it appears to be working?

There are many more variables involved then the majority of users have any clue about. As a data point. I have a pre-release Lenovo T470S here to play with . I was able to connect using one of its USB 3 ports transfer files and send music to the X5 III.
It has the Current (7th gen.) mobile Intel chipset for Kaby Lake. The USB controller is the Intel integrated controller.

Made a note ... Fiio F5

That F5 kinda look like another Dunu oem.

You are right and loved the rebranded titan 1 .. and the EX1 pairs really well with the X5 III. The vents on the insides are almost identical. I love the fit these angled ones provide. With comply tips the harshness of the extended treble of the EX1 is wonderfully not so harsh anymore.

Hence why Fiio's help to pinpoint the issue would be great. I've yet to check what USB chipset is on the surface book

i agree, i rediscovered the EX1 with the X5 III, i wish bass was a bit faster and tighter but overall it's a very enjoyable pair.
