can I use the adel modules with the new A18 model? I really like the mam module :)

You can't. 64 audio went out of their way to make sure their new IEMs don't fit the ADEL modules. The new APEX slots are smaller and ADEL modules don't fit

Thanks! Hope the sound of the A18 with the apex won't let me down then compared to my A12's now with adel. Too bad 64audio does not have a tuneable apex module.

Or maybe they they were required to. I don't think we really know what the parting of ways agreements were.

There weren't any requirements because after the breakup 64 made iems with adel housing fitted with apex modules to burn through the old housing stock. After that the slots got smaller. The Asius rep said that the new housing was a surprise to them. Well 64 would want to keep the new iems exclusive to apex otherwise people will just buy adel.

You state "there weren't any requirements" as if you know this to be a fact, then point out a few circumstances that happened around that time.

For instance, the Massdrop units shipped with ADEL modules and the breakup agreement may have allowed 64audio 30 or 60 days to clear out their ADEL module stock. Or maybe I'm wrong and you have connected the dots correctly. Who knows for sure?

My point is that both companies chose to keep their official communication on this subject minimal and even somewhat vague (probably as agreed in the breakup negotiations).

So my original point still stands. That we haven't been told and thus don't really know what factors lead to the split.

Personally I am a big fan and very happy customer of both companies. It would be disappointing to see either one suffer in an extremely competitive marketplace due to half truths or speculation.

Personally I am a bit ticked that I couldn't buy a new ADEL U12(or a APEX U12 where I can fit ADEL modules) this Black Friday and the Empire Ears offerings didn't seem appealing to me.

Just a thought - but perhaps rather than making all these suppositions (above and many previous posts) - you refrain from commenting unless you have had the chance to listen to the modules and actually compare - including the differences and benefits.  In Head-Fi's Posting Guidelines it states:

I want to be very clear here - because I have had the chance to compare ADEL to Apex - and I also have a bit of knowledge of the inner workings of both.

  • There is a very big difference between the technology.  ADEL uses a membrane to effectively reduce pressure, and stop the acoustic reflex triggering early.  This effectively allows you to listen at a lot lower level, and still get all the detail.  From my personal observations, and as a tinnitus sufferer, the ADEL module provides much more relief than APEX. I also want to point out that I absolutely love my 64Audio U6 - it is a wonderful IEM, and the ADEL module takes it to the next level.  I have nothing but good things to say about the service and quality of 64Audio.

  • The Apex module at its heart is an acoustic damper.  It achieves pretty much the same tuning as ADEL, with slightly better isolation - but at its heart it is acoustic foam and a vent.  There is no membrane, and no studies to show that it prevents the acoustic reflex triggering early.  With the APEX I am more inclined to turn the U6 up.  With the ADEL I am more inclined to turn it down. I get less fatigue with the ADEL module.  Several others have made the same observation.

I would encourage anyone interested in either technology to do your research - including contacting the two companies - and to make your own decisions.

This is interesting. I may contact 64audio for a APEX module since my A12 is from the KS batch, which should be able to fit modules from both unless I understood wrongly. Won't be too soon though, overspent already :p

Yes they should fit.
