I have been comparing the Sony 1A and other daps using balanced and their balanced output. I have also burned in the SE but I haven't used it very much. Then today I started comparing to the Hugo using the optical out of the DX200. To be honest I like the single ended even more at this point. Very natural, open and spacious. I like it every bit as much as the Hugo. Very lifelike, transparent and very dynamic. I thought the DX200 would only work with the balanced mode for the Utopia, to have the open and dynamic sound and not the typical portable sound driving full sized headphones but in single ended I am very surprised. Detail is a little more spot on comparing to the Hugo as well. I am using Mango and the digital setting is 5 on the drop down screen.

I am more interested how is sounds compared to Opus#2 which is way more expensive.

Hopefully toward the end of next week once DX200 is here and goes through a proper burn in, you will have comparison to Opus#2, LPG, and X7 w/AM3.

@koluludome : I don't have dx200 yet, but have x5iii and hope you are not serious comparing both as having the same performance
wink.gif
Of course, I can't make this comparison yet, but can tell you that x5iii has a very strong hissing with sensitive iems, and even after burn in the sound is still flat and not as resolving/layered (though, it is clear and smooth/musical).  x5iii has everything but the kitchen sink, and it does everything great, except it still has a typical mid-fi sound performance which should be compared (which I will do) to the original x5ii, opus#1, and N5 and i5.  Based on initial impressions and comparisons I read about DX200, it's clearly in summit-fi category and probably better compared to the likes of other summit-fi daps I listed above.

can u add cowon pm2 to the comparison, i also would like to see one time taking the capability of eq in daps into account, and what can be achieved with eq in all these daps, instead of always just reading the pure sound mode of a dap

for example you can achieve amazing sound quality with pm2 with its dsp, while without its dsp it sounds so flat and dull, so i like to read a fight about best sound you can squeeze out of a dap to its highest limits and using all resources of that dap

i am sure alot of users use eq, and sometimes eq and dsp and the way of how they affect sound have a huge factor in making a purchasing decision, knowing some daps have useless eqs while others are masters of eq. Fiio upped their game with introducing viper effect, cowon shines with jetaudio, while astell and kern fall flat with their eq. i think to just compare a dap in a pure state mode " no eq or dsp " can be a factor of missing out on the  hidden treasure in the arsenal of that dap and how it can totally transform a dap from flat boring to amazing breath taking

please for non eq users do not please start a fight of eq usability and as i respect your love for pure sound there are alot of people who appreciate eq capabilities in a dap

I tried x5iii with k10ua and rhapsodio sg 2.98 8 braids which hiss strongly on Cayin i5 and my Galaxy note3. But on LG v20, hiss is lower  so much it's just a little noise floor in song that have quiet part like Tundra - Amber Rubarth, One - Ed Sheeran. On FiiO x5iii, I have the same level of noise floor that it's not too much that I can call it hiss but there's something down there while dx200 is less hiss or no hiss at all one my IEM.

About the perfomance, x5iii is flat with a touch of warm and not too color like previous version. Seperation is good but layered (front to back) is not as good as dx200.

Hope this help :)

Can't wait to read your review of both x5iii and dx200 :D

Paul,

Any plans to enable MQA decoding on DX200? Is it technically possible at all?

This question keeps coming up every now and then. There's a "Search this Thread" at the top of which you can search for MQA.

Will it be sold by other retailers such as Amazon? I don't find it anywhere but official store so far.

Someone already mentioned that ExtremeAudioUSA will have stock next week.  They are official iBasso distributor in US which means it will appear on Amazon shortly.  I can post a link as soon as I see it.

My DX200 is 100 hr run in. So I will put my comparison here but I need to say that I cannot communicate in precise term. Just read for fun.

VS sony 1A SE: I think sony is bassier and more impact/attack and thicker and more forward human voice. Thus give listener fuller experience. It is less natural tonal compared to dx200. The soundstage and layer, dx200 is slightly outperform.
(Remark: I don't have 4.4 balanced adapter so might be a bit biased.)

VS OPUS 2 balanced: Really quite same level in every aspect.Vocal,Soundstage, layering, bass&impact both in tightness and quantity. OPUS 2 is only more extended treble. So hi-mid (female voice) is more open compared to DX200.

VS fiio x7 AM2 high gain: sub-bass and treble of fiio is much more than dx200. Fiio has also more forward mid. Smaller soundstage and layering is not doing well compared to dx200. Detail is also not in the league of dx200.

VS HM901 HM901 is warmer, more analog sound both in bass and mid range but less sparkling than dx200. DX200 has more detail and wider soundstage while hm901 has better soundstage in depth. DX200 has better instrumental separation.

Fiio X5iii is not even in the league.

After 200 hr, I will do compare more with qp1r ak320 and LPG.

what about bass not only sub bass when you compare dx200 to fiio x7, as to me if you say fiio x7 has much more subass than the dx200, i then am confused as I find fiio x7 barely even hitting the ground with bass or sub bass, so i do not know how to interpret this other than to think dx200 might not suit people who like bass heavy music players

i think we need to start of creating a standard when we compare daps, like at least with what songs to choose, and if possible a list of few totl and mid tier iems, other wise we will keep on reading conflicting opinions

Bass is not tight compared to dx200. It is like it has ripple after the bass-range notes occur. But surely X7 treble is sparkling than dx200.
