wait, what is this Monk expansion package people talking about? :O

Apparently VE is planning to launch 'Monk Expansion Package' soon which would contain Monk +accessories. So far it's known that one of the accessories would probably be a yurbud-style silicone eartip. Rest remains to be seen though.

Lee please add an 75 ohm adapter into the expansion package so that some people could enjoy their Monks more.

Sorry, but I don't think I will be doing that any time soon or ever~

If I wanted a 100ohm earbud, I would have made one

And we will have a 64ohm earbud coming in no time~

Exciting! I'll definitely have to try the new 64 ohm VE...

I got the sennheiser rubber rings but they're just not doing it for me. Feels too close to no foams, thought it would be more cushy I guess. I only used one set of the rings if anyone wants the others :)

I picked up a few pairs of these on a whim after stumbling upon a recommendation elsewhere and finding this thread.  I wasn't quite sure how to set my expectations since "xxx for a $5 headphone" makes it difficult to get a sense of sound in a more objective sense. They arrived yesterday and after listening for a day, I can say I was pleasantly surprised.  They are higher quality in construction than I expected and while they aren't what I would call an "audiophile" sound, I would describe them as warm, musical, and cohesive sounding.

I don't use earbuds a lot, and my experience with them is limited to the low end of things.  Compared to other earbuds I've heard, the monks sound surprisingly "open."  They still suffer a bit from the "three blob" effect, but instrument separation overall is good.  I hear a mid / upper bass "hump" which gives music a nice kick, but spills over and creates some congestion in the lower-mids.  The mids sound pretty neutral and then a roll-off in the treble which probably makes them forgiving of poor sources.  They also handle more than enough power to get unpleasantly loud without the sound breaking down anywhere.  I have to compliment Lee for his overall approach with these earbuds.

These aren't going to replace any of the full sized headphones in my rotation, they aren't the best sounding earbuds I've ever heard, and they didn't change my life.  However, it easy to forget you are wearing them and just listen to the music which is really impressive given the cost.  At $5 plus a few bucks shipping, it's hard to argue with the "best bang for your buck" claims.

Here it´s the opposite. The Monk easily replaced my HD600 and HE400s. Source is Fiio X7. X7 + Monk = Audio Nirvana.

Funny cause the HD600 was the main competitor when a friend and I tried out the monks when I got my first set.
We both thought it beat the HD600 in every way, on every song.
The Asura 2.0 is even better!

It´s good to know that there are ways to upgrade if I would want to. Right now I´m so impressed by the Monks that I really want to know how they sound when they are in their sweet spot. According to Lee himself this means a burn in time of at least 300 hours. I´m almost at 200 hours now, and they have opened up so much more since when I´ve started. And then Lee wrote some of his buddies said they are a complete different animal after 1500 hours. So I want to go all the way!

While I think comparing it to an HD600 -and it beating- is a bit overenthousiastic, it really is a good buy for sure. Most of the time I dont like this amount of bass in music, combined with the rolled off treble with the foams, but it is all just not too much, not too little. It sounds just smooth. Not lifelike, but very pleasing.

It doesn't beat the HD600 in every possible way, that's for sure, but it was definitely favorable in many ways on the tracks we tested it on.

IMO the Asura 2.0 is a lot more like that actual HD600ish sound.

I'm not sure if you are saying you'd pay $300+ for the Monks.  If you are, Lee should reconsidering his pricing strategy :)

More seriously, it's great if you get more enjoyment out of the Monks than you do from your HD600s.  That wasn't my personal experience, and maybe after 1000 hours of burn in I'll feel different.  There is no question the Monks outperform their price range, produce an enjoyable sound regardless of the price, and for most people will represent an incredible value in terms of quality to price.

They've replaced the HD600 for me (as well as quite a few others) just simply because of the total package they provide.

The sound quality is quite good and I agree with the comparison to the HD600 (they probably fall somewhere between the 598 and 600 sound quality wise), they're inexpensive and easy to replace so I don't have to baby them, they can be thrown in a bag, they don't need an amp to sound good, the foam options/earhooks provide some basic signature changes if desired, and for me, they're super comfy and I forget that I'm using them.

To me the sum of that beats a lot of flagship headphones, but as always YMMV. :)

Now to decide if I want to upgrade to the Asura 2.0 or not...
