I was one of the people DJScope mentioned who perforated their eardrum from removing an ER4S.

Its a very painful experience, takes months to heal and you can easily reoccur the damage simply by sneezing with your mouth closed during the healing process. I was partially healed, had to sneeze one night in bed, didn't open my mouth and the pressure tore my eardrum once again putting me back basically near 2-months of healing process, air came rushing out my ear. I had to be so careful anytime I sneezed to release the pressure for months on. (and still do)

When people say you don't forget the first experience of some pain for example a dentist drill hitting a nerve, perforating your eardrum holds the same theory, just think about it for a second the pain comes rushing back, you never forget it.

Always try and pull down on the IEM to break seal before removal, though in the case of ER4S its a very tight/deep seal with triple flange tips. Little different from regular tips.

Oh yeah, definitely. I remember the time I had an infected eardrum from swimming in a creek. It was so bad and there were no doctors around as we were on a holiday in a pretty remote area. After a full day of agonising pain, my friend's mum ended up popping my eardrum with a sewing needle; I got this instant rush of relief as the puss came out of my ear, it was almost like euphoria. I'd never forget that pain.

You were pretty unlucky to have it reoccur a couple of times. Hope all is better now.

Everyone just needs to know that your eardrum is extremely sensitive and it's very important to our way of life. We all need to take precautions in this hobby not to damage out precious ears.

To get back on topic, I would like to state the chances of this occurring with something like FLC8 are a lot less.

Just treat all audio gears/ears with caution.

I'm still trying to find a source that sits well with my FLC8, DX80 isn't really cutting it.

Headphones will do the trick haha!

I like a clean source with the FLC8s...really provides a baseline to test out some of the various tunings.

agreed. Cowon and AK DAPs will do the trick
i wonder what @Flcforrestwei uses to test the flc8s when it was a prototype? Paw Gold?

FLC8 is developped two years ago, it seems like I used Ipod to test then, but FLC8s was test by Pay Gold.

interesting so am I right to say the synergy with Paw Gold is excellent?

Regarding driver flex, I sent an inquiry about it to RHA a while back (and they are the experts). They said it has essentially no damaging effect on the driver. This makes sense, because the driver in headphones is designed to move at accelerations over 90 G's, so I wouldn't worry about it.

I am more worried about removing IEMs quickly from the ear (especially when the cord gets snagged). I'd imagine that the abrupt pressure change would be bad for the eardrum, but I am no expert so I can't say it has any effect for sure, aside from making my ear feel weird. This would probably explain my inability to understand people who are seemingly speaking clearly...

Thanks for confirming.

Or try opening your jaw to release the pressure before removing the iem.

This works very well also when putting them in.

Yup, my thoughts on the subject exactly.

I've damaged my eardrum before whilst pulling out IEMs too quickly before and I know people who have also done this. When there is a huge vacuum seal you can try pushing it in and taking it out on a slight angle to alleviate as much pressure as possible.

Didn't know the pressure difference would damage your eardrums...sounds scary.

Ewwwwww, but I imagine that feeling is pure bliss.

I'm wondering what you're not liking about the DX80... I picked one up while my FLC8S has been away on loan to a friend. So far I've really liked the DX80 with my Oppo PM-3, but I'm getting my FLC8S back soon, and you have me a bit concerned, lol.

I had been using the X3II before I loaned the FLC8S away, and liked it fine.

Would you mind elaborating, if you have a moment? Thanks!

Im finding my Fiio X5ii to be a good pairing with FLC8s with its neutral sound.
X3ii is slightly more warm I think.
