Denon AH-MM400

Shame that you two (above) had a bad experience with these. Had mine for a month or so now and they've been fine slung in a bag on my commute - even surviving a motorcycle crash! I'll give you that the headband would be my choice of the weakest link if I was pressed to choose one, but on the whole Denon are generally known to have decent build quality.

Glad you got a reliable MM-400!

This is my first Denon ever.

I love the sound signature of the MM-400, however, it has happened twice.

If it happens the third time, I won't want to get Denon anymore.

The service centre from where I live is about 2 hours journey, and a month's wait for the new set to be shipped.

I am willing to sacrifice the beautiful sound signature over reliability and durability affecting the Earphones Components affecting its sound signature.

I never had issue affecting the Earphones Components with my other gears.

Of course Denon. It is in a very different league. As a matter of fact there are a cheaper headphones such as MSR7 that sound better than Momentums.

I found a great imitation of the AH-MM400, the BossHifi B8. Great sound, even compared with my Staxen, the bass of the B8 is even superior. Great cable, too, all for just 71€ with free shipping from AliExpress. They play all sorts of lossless music perfectly even directly from my Nokia N8 ...

Anybody out there who knows both cans and compared and evaluated them? Thanks.

talking about cables, are there any aftermarket cables that fit straight in WITHOUT having to grind/shape the end like I had to with my VMODA cable?

Ideally within the UK although I can import if it's guaranteed to fit

Looks exactly like my BossHifi B8 with its original cable ...
I just looked up the BossHifi. Damn those look stunning. Even thicker earpads than the Denons. Your sound impressions are relative to the Denon or is it just the looks they have in common? If these are the real deal, then they're a bargain!

As I've already written these compare favorably even with my hi-end Stax earspeakers. Incredible value and very efficient (16 Ohm impedance) so they play loud straight from my smartphone (the N8 has a great DAC built-in).

The soft protein leather is very comfy, too with good isolation and there is enough room so there will be no contact with the ears. These cans are endgame with a ridiculous price tag. They use 50mm beryllium drivers BTW so the sound sig might be a bit different from the carbon/paper 40mm drivers of the Denons.

Perhaps BossHifi fixed all the shortcomings of the Denons in a budget can LOL. The build quality is top notch. Definitely worth a try IMO ...

If you bite the bullet on these please post a comparison with the Denon cans. Thanks.

Even if you disagree I'll still cherish these. As I said, endgame for me ...

I have never heard anything from Stax which is why I was checking about the Denons. I considered purchasing these this morning given their price point but AliExpress isn't getting the best of reviews, especially with suppliers not sending products and people not being able to get refunds. I might wait till they're available from a more reliable source.

I have only good experiences with Ali. My sellers always answer withing 24 hours tops when I have any questions.

I like to save money and have some adventure, always works for me.

Especially in the case of the B8. And another one if you use earbuds sometimes. These are really good, believe it or not, the first buds with good overall SQ and real bass:

Penon is a trusted seller, also has the B8 in stock, there is an even cheaper option but that must not be mentioned here.

And there is also Taobao, eBay, Amazon ...

Wow, that's the first time I've ever heard the nighthawk's described that way! My experience (and most people's if you read the NH thread) is quite the opposite.

Sorry for being off topic.

Hi @waynes world I noticed you like the Nighthawk sound signature and also in some older posts preferred the Portapro drivers to the KSC75 drivers. Again a darker sound. I am on the same boat regarding the Koss drivers so perhaps the NH sound would work for me too...

Is anyone here who has the MM400 and live in the SF Bay Area willing to lend theirs for 15 mins? I work in SF, live in Fremont, and frequently visit Berkeley and Oakland. I plan to buy one on Amazon UK for $272 + shipping. I want to make sure I like the sound and fit before I make a big purchase. I currently own Denon D600 and have tried the Oppo PM3. PM3s are nice, but I find the bass a bit lacking. I might like the MM400, but I am a bit concerned about the fit.

Just got these a pair of these headphones for a good price used, and I have to say I'm very impressed. Not a big fan of the stock cables, but I had one of these laying around and it fit with no trimming, so I'm able to use whatever 3.5mm cable I want now:

Looking for cases. I think cases that fit Beats Studio will also fit the MM400. I like the design on this carbon fiber case

Yeah, I got a case advertised for the Beats Studio and it fits perfectly

Got the case. Fits well along with the audio cable, my Meridian Explorer2, and a tiny usb cable. Not very happy with the build quality of this specific case that I got. I was hoping it's a solid hard shell, but it seems more of a hard semi flexible plastic case. But yes, it was also advertised for Beats Studio.
