setup 1:

-ipod---connected by cck and micro usb cable to hugo----then i connected the hugo to -----fiio e11 and put the fiio on high gain and boosted the bass in fiio e11 ------- all i can say is wow what a warm sound and i am listening to it on my audeze lcd 2 ( note audeze is connected to fiio e11 )

Personally I won't even bother to waste a DAC as transparent and detailed like Hugo if I'm to muddied it up with bass boost portable amps downstream... you may want to look at some big bass cans instead of these audiophile voiced headphones. LCD2 has great (amount of) bass for audiophile type sound, but you can find much more impactful/bass boosted warm sound with sth much less expensive than a Hugo+LCD.

Agreed - the bass being injected into my head by the Hugo/Taurus/X1 combination as I type this is outstanding. I may not need the Taurus with these cans, but you know what they say about power corrupting even the most well-intentioned

Thanks OK-Guy!

Would have preferred something more minimalist.... along the lines of the AK100 II case.  Personally I won't be needing that carry handle, nor the elastic bands/flaps at the back.  Could there be a version without all these "extras"?

A very simple case with cutouts on top for the lights/volume control and access to the jacks/power switch at both side would be great!

I'm in strong agreement with kkcc..."more minimalistic" is my view exactly. Black no handle or flaps please!!! Just a very good high quality leather hide that is well refined and designed to protect the unit itself is all that I need.  A thin plastic cover that wont discolor with age to protect the 2 plastic lens would be nice.  The volume control should be the only thing exposed.  I already use a very well padded travel bag and don't want to bring any more attention to a $ 2,500usd portable unit then I absolutly need too.  AK builds a very beautiful refined case and the Hugo is on par or frankly above the AK in terms of sound and quality.  So lets see what you guys can really do come on...

How many hours is the autonomy of a battery in the Hugo?
Depends on the file type decoding (higher bitrate = shorter life), volume played back at, and impedance of equipment used... 44khz FLAC files at modest to loud volume with a 16 ohm load nets me approx. 8.5hrs...

In other news, my meanderings with cable management have netted me the below as the final solution...

Happy enough with this - nice and compact and minimal stress on each connection :)

the audeze sound is the best ever headphone especially the lcd 2 rev 2, but the hugo lacks in bass output to the audeze.

I tried the hugo with the lcd3 and i liked much better the lcd2 as the lcd2 gave this dreamy full full sound, its contrary to what i read on forums here I thought the lcd3 had this dreamy lush sound but the lcd3 treble was like a little harsh using the hugo

So the fiio e11 just add a little bass boost to the sound signature, and its so cheap. I really tested hugo with and without fiio e11, but I liked the sound with fiio e11 hundred times more than the hugo alone, the fiio e11 adds this amazing fullness in sound to the audeze lcd2.

even I did a blind test to 5 people in the store and all liked the sound with fiio e11. Muddy or not muddy I am telling u what my ears hear

so if the fiio e 11 can add this great texture then I am sure a better portable amp with better bass boost will be heaven with the hugo and audeze

For the past month you have been asking how to eq in bass and thicker mid tones so it is curious you now claim Audeze to be the best signature, but only after massively distorting the output!

Bet you would have been just as satisfied with Denon or a Fostex TH600 and save 1k in the process

What frame of reference do you have as a source for the LCD2.2 and why did you not just buy that.

ok let me tell u i am more looking for what i like to hear in my gear, and for me music needs coloration and i know many will disagree but i love bass, and as i mentioned before i love the bass i get from my cheap sms by 50 cent but only the bass and not the mids or highs. So that is when i got the audeze i was blown away by the mids and highs but i kept missing the bass impact, or what ever u call it coloration or bass boost.

so i was always thinking now what i have this expensive gear but lower than my liking in bass sector. So that is what i discover by adding an amp with bass boost to the hugo the audeze now is close to perfection. Nice full warm sound , great great bass, and nice mids and highs.

for me i don't need to be like the rest of u, who consider coloured music or bass boosted music bad, i like it that way, and so be it.

i barely came across any album that does not need eq or bass boost for my own preferences so i hope u respect that not all people like flat sound.

I am a person who loves full rich warm bass sound signatures

I don't like reference sound or flat eq, and that is just me

so anyone who feel they need more oomph from their hugo audeze combo they should consider adding an amp with bass boost so this is not for people like u or who just like flat or reference quality

we are all different so it will be also helpful if instead crtizcing me to help people like me who love a certain sound signature to get it even with gear like hugo or audeze

as with fostex or denon i never heard them but i had the mad dog 3.2 and its not like audeze in mids and highs, so the missing thing with the audeze hugo combo was boosting the bass with an amp. And I bet not even one of those has the sweet highs and mids like audeze as those are out of the world

and finally when i did blind test for 5 people they all loved the hugo fiio e11 combo

what i like to get now is a dam portable equaliser instead of relying in the silly eq in onkyo player to take it to another level, I am a bass and eq lover you don't need to be an audiophile to enjoy gears like hugo, as in the end its all fun to play with such gear as u like

I know u might say why not cheaper stuff, I already had fiio x3 fiio 5 and other toys non are like the hugo for person who loves to colour music
