is it still possible to sign up for the SG tour? I would love to audition those bad boys and have extensive knowledge of Grado/magnum cans.

Just shoot Joedoe a PM to sign up. But they're not Grado/Magnun cans, they're Sennheiser/Grado cans.

She's ALIVE!!!!!

Wood Cups from YewAudioWorks
Sennheiser PX100-ii drivers
EarZonk G-Cushion
Auvio Headband
Stock Grado 8 conductor cable

She sounds really good so far. Doesn't have the treble bite that some Grado headphones have.

Seems a little bit lacking in bass, but I did recess the drivers a bit. Mids are not as forward as Grado headphones, but still sound amazing.

The large earpads sound the best to me so far.

For the headband, did you just use the headband off of this?

Does it provide good clamping force? I am working on a woody mod with a 225i with headphile c-pads but the grado band is not tight enough to seal the pads properly.

Beautiful cans, by the way. Very well done.

Man, I just can't get past those ear cushions...  they're so huge, it's hilarious to me.  Reminds me of the XB500 pillows.   Not hilarious in a bad way, just cartoonish.

Thank you for your kind comments.

Yes, that is just the Auvio headband. There is a Sony headband from Trew Audio that you can also use, but it takes a slight modification to fit Grado cups. Another option is just to salvage a Grado headband somewhere.

Clamping force is a about the same as Grado headband I'm afraid. You can bend the headband to fit your head, which is what most people do.

Do note that the Auvio doesn't have horizontal swivel, so I find that you need to sit the headband slanted back a bit to get the pads to lie flat.

Thanks!

Well, the combination of vibro cups, punch mod and damping the back of the driver all brought up the bass, so the seal isn't quite as much of an issue anymore... But I still like the look of your headband more from an aesthetic standpoint. I'm pondering that or just going all-in and dopping $50 on the Turbulent Labs Saddle leather band. Decisions, decisions...

  My review is up! http://www.head-fi.org/products/sennheiser-grado-hybrid-a-k-a-senngrado/reviews/11568

Nicely done...

It is a shame that DIY looks so formidable from the outside. I was terrified the first time I cracked open a pair of Grados...but once you get going, it loses that aura of mystique.

Just finished roughing out another pair of Korina sleeves this morning, now need to shape them.

Good review , although for me I had to turn the gain up to get the most out of it. I was using a Fiio E17.

Same here...had to the crank the volume up on the X5 with them...

Absolutely! well put.  once you get past the initial jitters and start the actual project, it's quite fun and addicting. Hell, you never know  where you'll end up!  ....even making your own wooden cups perhaps!

yes, this is true. That's why I included the comment about the Galaxy S4 not giving it enough volume. I still don't see it as difficulty driving it though. While it could certainly use more volume for some (s4), I did not feel like it was messing up any of the frequencies. for example bass is always the most noticeably impacted frequency when it is not properly driven by the source device/amp, and in this case, I didn't really notice anything out of place, except for having to max out the volume...

Which pad would go best with a Senngrado? I REALLY want to build one.

Honestly I like mine with L, G, and TTVJ Flats depending on what I'm listening to. The usual is the L Cush as it's a happy medium of the three.

Looks amazing. Just 953 more posts to go! Any suggestions on how to increase this exponentially!
BTW, also not fair just because I'm late to this drug/rave/head-fi party.

So close! Haha, no advice for that kind of postage, but you could just build your own! All parts can be had for under $150!
